House Dems Seek Extra Security Amid Health Care Protests.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Wednesday that at least 10 of his Democratic colleagues feel that they are at risk of harm for voting in favor of the new health care bill and have sought extra police protection. Also, the Maryland Democrat hinted Wednesday that Republicans should do more to condemn these threats of violence. “I would hope that we would join together jointly and make it very clear that none of us condone this kind of activity,” Hoyer told reporters. [Watch video below.] “And when we see it, we speak out strongly in opposition to it. And I would hope that we would do that going forward.” Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), the majority whip, said Democrats and Republicans should continue to speak out on these threats. “Silence gives consent,” Clyburn said. However, Minority Leader John Boehner has already condemned threats of violence — and sought to explain why people are so angry. “I know many Americans are angry over this health care bill, and that Washington Democrats just aren’t listening,” the Republican stated. “But, as I’ve said, violence and threats are unacceptable. That’s not the American way. We need to take that anger and channel it into positive change. Call your congressman, go out and register people to vote, go volunteer on a political campaign, make your voice heard — but let’s do it the right way.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Capitol Police and sergeant at arms briefed Democrats behind closed doors today about the incidents of violence — the most high profile of which have been toward Democratic Reps. Thomas Perriello of Virginia, Steve Driehaus of Ohio and Louise Slaughter of New York. On Wednesday, the FBI began a preliminary investigation into fuel lines cut at the Virginia home of Perriello’s brother, whose address was posted online. A tea party participant published on a right-leaning blog what he thought was Rep. Perriello’s home address and urged disgruntled voters to “drop by” for a “good face-to-face chat.” Vandals broke windows at Slaughter’s office in New York and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’s office in Arizona. Slaughter, a Democrat who chairs the House Rules Committee, said a caller to her office last week vowed to send snipers to “kill the children of the members who voted yes.” Her office reported the call to police, who were dispatched to provide protection for Slaughter’s grandchildren. She has also been in touch with the FBI and U.S. Postal Service inspectors, who intercepted a letter en route to her home in upstate New York. Sen. Bart Stupak, the Michigan Democrat whose last-minute compromise on abortion guaranteed passage of the bill Sunday, said callers have left messages for him saying, “You’re dead; we know where you live; we’ll get you.” And angry voters are planning to protest this weekend at the home of Steve Driehaus — who’s already seen a photograph of his children used in a newspaper ad published by reform opponents.

The group called the Committee to Rethink Reform used a photo of him and his two young daughters in an ad urging him to vote against any health care reform bill that included federal funding for abortion. Both the group and the newspaper — the Cincinnati Enquirer — apologized for including Driehaus’s daughters in the ad. Fellow Ohio congressman Boehner, who warned that anti-abortion Democrats would suffer politically if they voted for the health care bill, singled out Driehaus, saying he “may be a dead man” and “can’t go home to the west side of Cincinnati” because “the Catholics will run him out of town.” “Mr. Boehner made comments about me and my predicament when I go home which I felt were wildly out of bounds for his position and very irresponsible, quite frankly. He’s from next door. That’s not helpful. That’s irresponsible,” Driehaus said.

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin posted a map on her Facebook page that shows the 20 districts represented by House Democrats who voted for health care reform – each marked by a bulls eye image. In her Twitter posting directing followers to the page, she stated: “Commonsense “Conservatives & lovers of America: “Don’t Retreat, Instead – RELOAD!” African American political activist organization Color of Change is also calling on readers to stand up against the Tea Party-led attacks by “confronting Republican leadership and forcing them to take responsibility for the atmosphere they’ve helped create.”

Smoke & Mirrors

Smoke and Mirrors: Men who were shocked to find out what the woman really looked like after the clothes and make up came off!

Lights, Camera, Action!!!!! That’s what most men are getting when they go out with that glamorous woman with the long flowing hair, the voluptuous boobs, the lovely applebottom and the face that sparkles in the night. Well, what you don’t realize is the only time you want to see them in all that glory is in the the night; because if you take them home and roll over, the morning light won’t be so kind to you or them.

It’s true that not all women who wear the extra’s to enhance their beauty will give you the “Willies” when you see them without all the glamour girl stuff, so why don’t they strut their beauty “in the raw”?!

The real question is why do women feel they need so many superficial things to feel beautiful?

Are the women who feel confident that inner beauty “rules”, just fooling themselves?

From the mans perspective, do you prefer an “all natural girl/woman” or “the glamour girl/woman”?

Birth Control – Really?

While driving into the office I heard a commercial about Essure, a permanent birth control method for women who are absolutely 100% positive that they do not want to have any more children. Essure is promoted as a non-surgical procedure that can be performed in the doctor’s office in under 10 minutes. I don’t know about you but I find that interesting.

Essure is marketed with highlights of “no cutting,” “covered by insurance,” “it’s simple,” “safe procedure,” “ no scaring or incisions” as well as a host of other commentaries promoting its effectiveness and simplicity. Ok, that’s marketing, I get that.

But, I’m a bit concerned about the permanency of this method and the impact to some uninformed and easily persuaded individuals. What factors go into making the decision to no longer have children? Granted that at some point in a woman’s life (given all things considered normal), our bodies begin to shift towards menopause and the natural process makes it so that most woman do not conceive after menopause. So what’s up with permanency in birth control?

Is our world that overpopulated? It has been said that birthrates are exploding out of control in third world countries in Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. Do you think this product will be marketed to curtail their population growth?

Should we rely on science and technology to influence critical decisions about child birth? Would you?

Why is birth control targeted to women and sexual enhancement products promoted for men? Should men bear greater responsibility for holding down the birth rate?

Google-GoDaddy

The Google-GoDaddy Coalition! China’s Government Must Be Peeing In Its Pants Now!!!

GoDaddy has apparently joined Google in its China boycott. Which makes at least one company that cares enough about this issue to join Google founder Sergey Brin in his decision to pull out of the country.

We suspect there won’t be many more.

Americans are obsessed with free speech. The Chinese folks we met there on a trip there a few years ago, meanwhile, didn’t really give a damn.

True, they didn’t like that their government drove tanks over students in Tiananmen Square. And they don’t like all that other repressive behavior Google’s airbrushed search results didn’t let them read about.

But the lack of an ability to scream about how horrible the government is on national TV, radio, and the Internet?

That fell pretty low on their list of priorities.

What was higher?

The ability to make a living in a semi-free market economy. The ability to build a better life for their families. And so on.

As long as the Chinese government didn’t screw up the economy, the people we spoke with said, they were fine not being able to trash-talk them in the media.

Was this a scientific survey of the entire country? No. Do some Chinese put freedom-of-speech ahead of food, shelter, and the pursuit of luxury goods? Of course. But is the free-speech issue really as big a deal to average Chinese citizens as it is to average Americans? Based on the folks we talked to, we doubt it.

Adult Children moving back home

When Johnny or Jill come marching home after losing jobs, guess which bunks they take? Well, of course the top in their parent’s home. Add to the burden a grandchild or two, and you have the sure-fire answer to why some seniors can’t retire at 65.
There are lots of folks in this new boat, as companies have downsized, and the recession continues to bring job losses to young adults who had looked for a life away from Mom and Dad and now find themselves back in the nest eating the same bird seed they hoped they’d left for higher perches. Many of them had trouble keeping those fancy, well-feathered nests, and crowded conditions aren’t a recipe for happy homes, especially for those not used to living extended family style.
In Britain it’s become enough of a problem that 40% of those adults who expected to retire at 65 now say they can’t because they have responsibilities in caring for adult children. This is a sizable chunk of older folk who can’t get into those golden years so long as they have extra family members to support. A poll taken of nearly 1500 parents with children ages 18 and older revealed the fact that seniors are saying their retirement has been significantly impacted so they can’t save enough for retirement.
Micki and Richard Snyder are retirees in the small town of Natchitoches, Louisiana. Richard works much of the time as a carpenter around Natchitoches, but work has been slow this season. Micki retired from Federal Civil Service work and takes in foster children. A daughter is returning home, after leaving a few years ago to make her way in New York City. She is engaged to someone in England, but because her visa had expired she had to return home. Home, however, didn’t have a job, so consequently she’s coming home to folks.
The impact on the Snyders? Micki Snyder talked about it like this, “She has no place to go right now, so we are taking her in. Of course, that will increase our responsibility and take time away from others. But I told her she has to contribute and do her part to help.”
The daughter has children, being raised by the grandparents, and isn’t expected to stay long. Micki explained, “She will be sleeping in a bunk bed. That’s the space we have. Explaining to the children will be hard. This isn’t an easy thing. It will be extra expense and time as well. But we’ll do the best we can.”
“How long will she be with you.?” Micki then replied, “Possibly just a few months; that’s what she says. She is planning to get married to some fellow overseas. I guess that’s it; we’ll know as we go along, but those are the plans so far.”
The Snyders are known in Natchitoches for helping others and doing the right thing to reach out in the community. But like many seniors, they enjoy their personal time as well but find that the combined issues of grandchildren to support and other responsibilities have caused them to delay full-time retirement. Happy they say they are, but nevertheless like other seniors with added family burdens, their personal plans in some regards have been delayed.
New York Life uses the topic to talk about retirement and how important it is to recognize the issues facing folks as they make their plans these days. The company writes about what are called “boomerang kids,” who are those young adults who have moved back home. In fact they note that according to the Pew Research Center in 2009 13% of parents with grown children acknowledge adult children have moved in with them. The trend is usually associated with difficult economic times. Monster’s 2009 Annual Entry-Level Job Outlook is quoted as observing that 40% of 2008 graduates still live with their parents and in October 2009, as observed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 15.6% of young adults from 20 to 24 years of age were unemployed and likely to be dependent on others for support. Many return as well because of their increased debt, from college loans and their attempts to live a lifestyle they could not afford.

Heathrow Airport

A SECURITY worker at London’s Heathrow Airport has received a police warning and faces disciplinary action over claims he ogled a female colleague using a full-body scanner, officials said yesterday.

The 25-year-old worker made lewd comments after his colleague Jo Margetson, 29, mistakenly strayed into the scanner, which can see through clothes to produce an image of the body, the Sun newspaper reported.

The case is believed to be the first of its kind since the full-body scanners were rushed into service at a number of British airports in the wake of an attempt by a suspected Muslim extremist to blow up a plane bound for Detroit on December 25.

They are now being rolled out at airports across the world.

Details of the incident at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 on March 10 emerged on the day lawmakers said concerns that the scanners were intrusive had been overblown.

Margetson told the Sun she had been “traumatized” by what had happened and had informed police and her bosses at the airport’s operator BAA.

“We treat any allegations of inappropriate behavior or misuse of security equipment very seriously and these claims are being investigated thoroughly,” said a spokeswoman for BAA.

“If found to be substantiated, we will take appropriate action.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said officers had been informed of the allegation and “a first instance harassment warning has been issued to a 25-year-old man.”

Opponents of scanners have argued since their introduction that they risked breaching individuals’ rights to privacy. Britain’s Equality and Human Rights Commission has already said they might be breaking discrimination and privacy laws.

“For every official caught ogling like this, there are plenty more eyeing up law-abiding travelers,” Alex Deane, director of the Big Brother Watch campaign group, told the Sun.

“These expensive machines are totally disproportionate.”

The government says staff using the machines are properly supervised and would not be able to see the person being scanned. All images are deleted.

Britain’s parliamentary Home Affairs Committee said fears about the scanners were misplaced and they should be introduced at a faster pace to deal with the threat of terrorism.

NOTE TO SELF – These machines have been place in various airports across the USA, as a test program.
Must wear clean underwear, lol. We know there are going to be cliches in anything new, but men keep
keep your eyes to yourself.

Virgin Airlines – Spacecraft

Space tourism for the minted came one step closer when Virgin Galactic, Richard Branson’s US space company, announced that its commercial six-passenger spacecraft successfully completed an almost-three hour test flight.

The spacecraft, SpaceShipTwo, was attached to the wing of a carrier aircraft for its inaugural test flight. According to Virgin Galactic, the test flight programme for the spaceship will continue until 2011, progressing from “captive carry” to independent glide and on to flight under its own power.
Paying customers are expected to start flying in a few years’ time, paying up to $200,000 a ticket.

Abortion Bill

There will be no glaring lights or TV cameras when President Obama signs an executive order this afternoon affirming the continuing ban on federal funding for abortion. No East Room speeches. Not even a photo op handshake.

He’s unlikely to use 22 pens.

But the 876-word, two-page document may be among the most important of his presidency. The carefully-negotiated document assured passage of his health care legislation by gaining a handful of crucial pro-life votes without shedding pro-choice ones.

“The executive order found a sweet spot, which I’m surprised existed,” said William Galston of the Brookings Institution. “Something that didn’t send the base of the party into a tizzy but seems to have satisfied a very important minority within the party. It was the model of win-win pragmatism.”

A strict reading of the order suggests that it does little more than restate the existing prohibition on abortion funding, known as the Hyde amendment, and make sure that government officials “are aware of their responsibilities, new and old.”

But that didn’t stop pro-choice activists from condemning Obama for agreeing to it, or keep pro-life groups from asserting that it falls short.

The National Organization for Women declared Sunday night that Obama’s commitment to abortion rights is “shaky at best” and said his willingness to sign the order demonstrated that “it is acceptable to negotiate health care on the backs of women.”

For the activist groups, overheated rhetoric is part of the fundraising game. A threat to their core agenda can help them raise enormous amounts of money from their members and supporters. NOW declared Monday that it would launch an effort to repeal the Hyde
Amendment, the more than three-decade-old annual budgetary provision that Obama affirmed.

As Galston notes, the president’s decision to sign the order did not drive a single pro-choice lawmaker to vote against it, suggesting that the substance of the letter was less important than its symbolic value.

But for the president, the order reflects a willingness to ask some of his most devoted constituents — women, gays, unions and African Americans — to swallow a few toads while he battles on behalf of his broader agenda.

Body Under Hotel Bed (say what?)

Decomposing Body Found under Hotel Bed. Do you think the stench of a decomposing body would get your attention? Well maybe it would, but apparently it didn’t for hotel workers in Memphis. Specifically, the body of a missing woman, Sony Millbrook, was found under a motel bed. Her body had been hidden inside a metal frame for several months. Police were told by family members that Millbrook had been staying at the Budget Inn motel. Motel employees said the room had been locked with all of Millbrook’s personal belongings still inside due to lack of payment

How nasty does it have to become before you say……..uhmnnnnn………something, something just ain’t
right here? Instead months have passed by and the corpse goes unnoticed, this further explains this
hotel clientele OK. Somebody needs to get paid, feel me! BTW somebody call the Board of Health on
