Simon Cowell – X-Factor changing

Simon Cowell is speaking out about the recent changes on his singing reality show The X-Factor. Cowell says it wasn’t his decision to fire longtime friend Paula Abdul, but the decision came from the FOX network. They also fired the Host Steve Jones and Pussycat Doll and X-Factor Judge Nicole Scherzinger. Cowell felt the expectations were high, and his predictions of success didn’t help. What will he do now? Record Exec L.A. Reid is the only one left with Simon. When asked about possible candidates, Cowell says Madonna would be nice, but too expensive and Mariah Carey is too busy with her babies. Katy Perry would be fun and feisty, but reports of Beyonce coming on board for millions of dollars are absolutely not true. An announcement about the new additions to the show is coming later this year.

Judges Say ‘X Factor’ Will Be ‘A Game Changer’

As previously reported, former “American Idol” judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul are together again at the judges’ table, joined by record executive Antonio L.A. Reid and singer Nicole Scherzinger, a former judge on NBC’s “The Sing Off.”

How it’s Different from “American Idol”:

“X-Factor” is open to both solo acts and groups. The minimum age is 12 and there is no upper age limit. Contestants will be divided into four categories: girls between 12 and 25, boys between 12 and 25, solo artists over 30 and groups.  Also, some groups may be formed by rejected solo acts following the auditions.

Below, Cowell says he wouldn’t have gone through the effort of mounting a US version of the UK series unless he thought it would offer something different.

How “The X Factor” is Similar to NBC’s “The Voice”:

Each judge is assigned as a mentor in one of the four categories, assisting in song choices, styling and staging. Through the live shows, the judges will mentor the singers in their category while judging contestants from the other categories.  Ultimately, the judges are competing to ensure that their act wins the competition, thus making them the winning judge.

How it’s Unlike Any Competition Show on Television

The winner will pocket a $5 million recording contract with Epic Records and a starring spot in a Pepsi Commercial to air during the next Super Bowl.

Also, “The X Factor” is more competitive than other talent shows, according to Abdul. When the judges met with TV critics in Beverly Hills last month, Abdul said many of the singers who auditioned ran circles around acts on the radio today.

“They are much more prepared,” she said. “They are students that have watched every different artist, and they understand the savvy business of the record business, of having to have something special that is not a copycat of other artists. And they come in, and it’s that feeling that I’ve wanted to feel as a judge even through all of the years of ‘American Idol’ that I’m discovering something I have never seen before. And it’s not just about having that brilliant voice. It’s about all of the other parts that fill the gap, and that’s that special, unique, bold, and daring style.

Reid, a Grammy-winning record producer and current Chairman & CEO of the Epic Label Group, notes how all of the TV singing competition shows churn out artists who have gone through the grooming process a bit backwards.

“Most of the talent in the traditional recording industry, they don’t get their recording contracts on by performing on stage. The stage performance comes after,” he said. “So it’s a very different platform because they are being judged as stage performers in the beginning of their career where there are many who have hit records, who only learned to perform after they’ve sold millions of records.”

One aspect of “The X Factor” that will spill over from “American Idol” is the histrionic relationship between Paula and Simon, which viewers will experience yet again beginning with Wednesday night’s 8 to 10 p.m. premiere on Fox.

Simon Cowell

Simon Cowell says he is no hurry to make a decision about who is going to serve on his judging panel for his new talent competition show The X Factor. The show debuts in the fall on FOX, and rumored judges include Paula Abdul, Mariah Carey and George Michael. The judges on The X Factor will help contestants with song choices, production and choosing clothing style.

‘American Idol’ Premiere Drops Double Digits in Ratings

The Jennifer Lopez era of “American Idol” has started off with a ratings plummet, compared to last year’s season opener.

Numbers for Wednesday night’s tenth season premiere fell 13 percent among total viewers and 18 percent in the ad-coveted demographic of 18-49-year olds, according to preliminary data from Nielsen.

The much-hyped two-hour opener, featuring new judges Lopez and Steven Tyler with returning judge Randy Jackson, was watched by 26.1 million viewers with a 9.7 in the demo.

Last year’s premiere – which kicked off the final year of Simon Cowell, considered by many observers to be the show’s linchpin – was watched by 29.9 million viewers and averaged an 11.8 demo rating. That was down slightly compared to the 2009 premiere, which averaged 30.4 million viewers and an 11.7 rating in the demo.

American Idol has been declining since the 2007 season when the premiere installment attracted a high of 37.4 million viewers with a 15.8 in the demo.

Paula Abdul

Paula Abdul says she is excited about her return to TV. Abdul’s new dance reality show, Live To Dance, debuted to high ratings. I loved the dancing. Abdul, 48, says she is moving on from American Idol. She says there are many misconceptions about her. She says she has never had a drinking problem. Paula says she’s not ditzy or clueless but naturally goofy. When Abdul appeared on Idol, she was known for her antics and loopiness. She would appear out of it, and many wondered if this was the reason she was replaced on the show. For sure the show has not been the same without her. Now speaking of American Idol, their new season kicks off on the 19th with new Judges Steven Tyler from Aerosmith and Jennifer Lopez. In addition to new judges, the show is also getting a new musical director. Ray Chew from Showtime At The Apollo is taking the helm as the shows new music director. Chew has done every major awards show and even the President’s Inauguration. Chew has also worked with the legends including Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and Gladys Knight.

American Idol – signs Jennifer Lopez!

The official words should happen this week Jennifer Lopez will be named as a judge on American Idol. The lineup will be J-Lo, Steven Tyler, and Randy Jackson. Kara DioGuardi announced she wasn’t coming back last week.

“American Idol”? New Judges……..

Are the producers of American Idol not confident in their recent decisions regarding their new judges? They seem pretty unsure, and as of press time, they won’t admit they have hired Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler as the new judges on American Idol. The criticisms have already started. Ellen DeGeneres has opted to leave. She never fit in.
Kara DioGuardi was let go, and only Randy Jackson remained, and that almost didn’t happen. Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe is back with the show, and sources say he wanted to return to a three-judge panel. After last year’s rating slide, he wanted to get the show back on track, but will these new changes help. They wanted Elton John, but he was too expensive. Barry Manilow was approached, but he was unwilling to divert his tour to accommodate the show. Jessica Simpson had the show in the palm of her hands, but her bossy dad Joe Simpson, who is also her manager, blew the deal, so producers stepped to Jennifer Lopez, who is looking to revive her career. This may not be the best move for J-Lo. Producers don’t appear confident, and without Simon Cowell, who has left Idol for his own talent show The X-Factor this upcoming season, this could be the worst season yet for American Idol. Randy Jackson is sick of the changes, and he is rethinking his deal. They should have never gotten rid of Paula Abdul, and they should have never expanded the judges to a four-panel set. I lost interest in the show a while ago. The thrill could be gone!

American Idol

‘Odds’ Against Paige Miles on ‘American Idol’. Her fate was pretty much sealed after she finished her rendition of Phil Collins’ “Against All Odds” on Wednesday night. “American Idol” contestant Paige Miles was booted off of the show last night, just missing the round of top 10 who will participate in this summer’s “Idol” tour. Miles, who suffered from laryngitis last week, struggled to find any of the right notes on Tuesday’s episode featuring Billboard No. 1 songs. Randy Jackson called her performance “honestly terrible.” When host Ryan Seacrest announced that Miles had received the lowest amount of votes, Simon Cowell told the 24-year-old Florida native that she would not be singing for the chance to be saved by the judges, as they’d already unanimously decided to send her home. “It’s not working,” he told Miles. “I don’t want to give you any false hope here. It’s the end.” So what did Miles have to say for herself? “I had a lot of health issues going on out here…bad song choices and things like that, but I still had a blast, and it was a great learning experience.” Miles wisely chose not to sing “Against All Odds” for her farewell performance, instead revisiting Free’s “All Right Now” from top 24 week. Meanwhile, Usher will mentor the “Idol” top 10 next Tuesday (Mar. 30) for an R&B/soul themed performance night.

American Idol 2010

He may not be going to Hollywood, but General Larry Platt has a hit on his hands with Pants On The Ground. The 63-year old civil rights veteran appeared on American Idol during the Atlanta auditions, and he became an overnight sensation. The song, Pants On The Ground, is infectious and truthful. Hopefully, General Platt will have a fruitful fifteen minutes of fame. Now speaking of American Idol, the rumors are swirling about who is going to take Simon Cowell’s place when he leaves at the end of the season. Producer Rodney Jerkins, who has worked with Brandy, Beyonce and J-Lo, has had his name pop up, and LaToya Jackson is inquiring about the job. LaToya says she would be perfect, and if producers hire her, they would get the REAL LaToya Jackson.

‘Pants on the Ground’ Guy Plans to Lawyer Up. General Larry Platt, the 61-year-old “American Idol” hopeful whose original audition song “Pants on the Ground” has become a nationwide phenomenon, has reportedly hired a lawyer in hopes of cashing in on the tune’s popularity. According to TMZ.com, Platt never copyrighted his ditty against men who let their pants sag, so he is looking to hire a lawyer to help him collect some kind of compensation. For the record, TMZ reports, “Platt has seen Brett Favre’s rendition and liked it … and if Brett’s up for it, Platt would love to get Brett on board for a duet.”
