Baron Davis and Mo Williams Switch Teams

It’s adios Clippers and Cavaliers for Baron Davis and Mo Williams respectively. That’s because the two point guards are switching teams in a last minute NBA trade announced today.

Specifically the Los Angeles Clippers traded point guard Baron Davis (pictured) to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Mo Williams, Jamario Moon, and draft picks.

The deal will save the Clippers money, while pairing rookie sensation Blake Griffin with Williams.

The Cavs, who now take on Davis’ rather large 3 year salary, made the trade for the draft picks included in the upcoming draft.

Meanwhile, in other NBA trade news, if you haven’t already heard, the Utah Jazz have agreed to deal All-Star point guard Deron Williams to the New Jersey Nets in a trade that will send Derrick Favors(notes), Devin Harris(notes), and two first-round draft picks to Utah.

Williams says he found out he was traded to the Nets via ESPN’s “SportsCenter.” The deal was done so quietly that Williams said even his agent had not heard when he called for clarification.

Super Bowl Kick off Event: Carl Eller’s ‘The Future of the NFL’ Press Conference

Carl Eller and the Retired Players Association will address the state of the NFL from retired player’s unique perspectives on a vintage rail car as a symbolic gesture. The event will be located at the Union Pacific Railroad, 2112 E. Randol Mill Road, Arlington, Texas. This event will be open to the public and will be telecast worldwide via USteam.

The title of the press conference will be “The Future of the NFL”. Eller will passionately address young NFL players and the public. Eller’s address promises to fully educate non-players and player alike about the ramifications of Collective Bargaining Agreements. “Super Bowl XLV will be the last game played under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement,” explains Eller. “I want to address the public to educate and inform. We chose to host this address on The Union Pacific which is a highly symbolic venue because it reminds us of the significance of the past, and the role it plays in this year’s Super Bowl.”

According to Eller and the RPA, this analogy can be applied directly to the plight of the retired players and their messages of reform the NFL and the NFLPA. Eller, a former Minnesota Viking Defensive End and Pro Football Hall of Famer, is a staunch advocate for players, aspiring, current and retired.

“Current players, including rookies in this years’ draft have no idea of what is at stake in the negotiations. They risk losing billions of dollars at the bargaining table. This of course will affect the current players, who will soon be, retired players,” explains Eller.

The highlight of the presentation will be the announcement of the Retired Players Association’s heath care program SecuriCare, a national network of clinics and hospitals in pending partnerships with the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins Hospital and Scripps Clinics. This network has collective assets that will bring billions of dollars of medical care and technology to the retired players to help with health issues that retired players continue to suffer from.

The Retired Players Association has already helped hundreds of retired players with severe and debilitating medical problems and is now rolling the program out to retired players nationally. SecuriCare will provide the retired NFL players a cohesive, easy-to-use, network of thousands of expertly trained and skilled medical professionals. This will create a prestigious health care network which is quite possibly the world’s best health care plan and is far superior to anything provided thus far by the NFL or the NFLPA.

Lakers Clarify Parameters for ‘Khloe and Lamar’

As previously reported, the official greenlight of E!’s “Khloe and Lamar” reality show was announced Wednesday with news that Lamar Odom would be shown as he travels with his Los Angeles Lakers team.

Apparently, that was news to the Lakers organization.

According to the Orange County Register, Lakers spokesman John Black said Wednesday the team and E! network have not fully discussed the parameters involving following Odom as the Lakers finish out this season. The reality show will only be given access to the locker rooms, practice and wherever other media is allowed, he said.

Anything else, such as meeting up with Odom on the road, is up to the player, Black said. The network will not be allowed on the team’s chartered plane.

Khloe Kardashian told E! News that she and Odom “felt blessed to have been given such an amazing opportunity. I know that it will only strengthen the bond we have and the love we share for each other and we’re so excited to share our lives with our fans,” she said.

Jimmy Kimmel Sued by Rabbi over LeBron James Joke

ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel is being sued by an orthodox Jewish rabbi who claims his image was used without consent in a video segment that poked fun at basketball superstar LeBron James’ free agency hunt last summer, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The plaintiff in the case is Rabbi Dovid Sondik, also known as the “Flying Rabbi,” who has become a YouTube star thanks to his somewhat manic personality. According to a complaint filed in New York Supreme Court, Kimmel in August was trying to make a joke about reports that LeBron James had met with Rabbi Yishayahu Yosef Pinto for business advice. Kimmel claimed that he himself had met with Rabbi Pinto for advice and showed the audience a video of the exchange. The rabbi shown speaking to Kimmel appears to be Rabbi Sondik, not Rabbi Pinto.

Rabbi Sondik is now suing Kimmel and ABC for falsely portraying his voice, picture, and likeness as the voice, picture and likeness of Rabbi Pinto. Sondik claims he was made to “look foolish” and presented as a “laughingstock.” He claims unspecified damages for the alleged misappropriation of likeness. The lawsuit claims the Kimmel show spliced together images of the host in his car with an existing video of Rabbi Sondik that producers probably found on YouTube. In the same segment, LeBron James is shown meeting with Rabbi Pinto — a clip said to be licensed from TMZ. The plaintiff claims this demonstrates that producers essentially had a double standard — that they knew they needed to license the Rabbi Pinto video but they failed to make any attempt to license the Rabbi Sondik video. In fact, one of the causes o f action in this lawsuit is that the Kimmel show breached YouTube’s terms of use by taking the clip and failing to obtain YouTube’s written authorization. The video-sharing platform restricts its users from taking videos and broadcasting them in other mediums without permission.
