Chris Brown Bashed Already for Upcoming Role in Steve Harvey’s Book Gone Film

James Brown wasn’t lying when he said “This is a man’s world, but it wouldn’t be anything without a woman or a girl.”   That lyric sums up American culture better than any other.  Men set things into motion and women allow them to let it function.  Now if the woman gets hell in her and sees things differently, her crusade to change things usually gets results.

So, in saying all that, Chris Brown and Steve Harvey better cross their fingers and hope that their obvious reconciliation that has blossomed into a working relationship goes over well with the ladies.  So far….not looking good.  Clutch magazine printed a scathing “review” of the upcoming project “Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man” which hasn’t been released on film yet.  But, “Clutch” has taken  issue with the fact that “Chris Brown has been announced as one of the film’s stars.”

This gives us little information and if they have so little information on the film, they should’ve maybe kept it hush until they knew what he was being selected to do in the film.  He could be in a humiliating role that brings out how he feels about the incident with Rihanna and also gives us insight into why Steve Harvey chose him for the film.  There was a time that Steve Harvey publicly decried Chris Brown’s actions and let it be known that he wasn’t one of his favorite people because of it.  But it’s obvious that Harvey has changed his thinking toward the pop star.

But there are some things in Clutch’s argument that are valid. The male celebrities tend to get away with murder.  Well Chris brown didn’t kill her, but you know what I mean.  The culture throughout the world does not tend to be hard on men for their crimes against women.  But some women have helped make that possible.  A lot of women misrepresent the issues of women by not holding men’s feet to the fire for their crimes against them.  Some women, when given the opportunity to press charges, have a voice, or simply walk away from mistreatment, do not choose to defend themselves for various reasons.  Even Clutch said:

“I don’t believe that Brown should have been stripped of the opportunity to have a career once he completed his sentence following the 2009 assault on his then-girl. He has technically paid his debt to society, despite whatever his actions thereafter have said about his character. Let him sing, let him dance.”

Never, never, never ever be late?

The Retirement Dinner

A priest was being honored at his retirement dinner after 25 years in the Parish. A leading local politician and member of the congregation was chosen to make the presentation and to give a little speech at the dinner. However, he was delayed, so the priest decided to say his own few words while they waited.

“I got my first impression of the parish from the first confession I heard here. I thought I had been assigned to a terrible place. The very first person who entered my confessional told me he had stolen a television set and, when questioned by the police, was able to lie his way out of it. He had stolen money from his parents, embezzled from his employer, had an affair with his boss’s wife, taken illegal drugs and gave an STD to his sister. I was appalled. But, as the days went on, I learned that my people were not all like that and I had, indeed come to a fine parish full of good and loving people …..”

Just as the priest finished his talk, the politician arrived full of apologies at being late. He immediately began to make the presentation and gave his talk:

“I’ll never forget the first day our parish priest arrived,” said the politician. “In fact, I had the honor of being the first person to go to him for confession.”

Moral: Never, never, never ever be late.

The Pitfalls of E-Book Buying: What to Look Out for Before You Purchase

Buying e-books sounds so easy, and using them seems so effortless. The books are a breeze to purchase, and you can easily store great numbers of them, especially if your e-reader has a removable storage card.

Not surprisingly, e-book sales are jumping. In fact, a report by Forrester Research predicts that sales of digital titles (and readers) will top $1 billion in 2011. And the New York Times this week started adding e-books to its weekly Best Sellers list.

As your collection grows, though, so does your need to manage the resulting virtual library. IF you aren’t careful, you’ll find yourself with books purchased on Amazon.com that are readable only on an Amazon Kindle e-reader, books purchased at Barnes & Noble that require a Nook e-reader, books purchased through Apple that are viewable only on the Apple iBooks app, and so on.

The issue of incompatible formats and the difficulty of organizing books that you buy from different e-book sellers are two things that you should consider before committing to a specific e-book platform.

The E-Book Apps Trap
It’s easy to assume that if you buy a Kindle, you’ll shop at Amazon.Nevertheless, the concept of “buy once, read anywhere” is flourishing. Though Amazon, B&N, and Kobo sell their own hardware, they make Android, BlackBerry, iOS, and PC apps available as well. Effectively this means that you can read books, magazines, or newspapers that you purchase at one of these stores on most devices you’re likely to have in the future–if you use the appropriate platform’s app.

Effectively, this means that the e-books you buy are trapped in an association with a single software reader. If you buy wherever an e-book happens to be priced lowest, or if you use a gift card to buy books from a particular store, those books will be tied to the store where you bought them. The idea of maintaining a single digital bookshelf where you can search for all of your e-books vanishes. You can use the free open-source Calibre software to convert files from one platform to another, but the translations can be rough, and the reflow and pagination may not be work properly.)

The appeal of buy-anywhere is twofold. First, consumers need the freedom to shop freely at different e-bookstores, just as they can shop for Blu-ray movie discs at any of a number of retailers, online or otherwise.Second, consumers need to be able to view the contents of their purchased libraries in a unified fashion. The more books we collect, the greater will be our need to be able to organize our collection. The on-board e-reader organizational tools are fine for a handful of books, but for dozens or hundreds of books accumulated over the years, they’re inadequate.

Tyler Perry – New Detective on the block

Tyler Perry, the detective? Yes! Perry has signed on to play “Alex Cross,” a crime solving D.C. detective based on the books by James Patterson. This is not a Tyler Perry production. The only time he ever appeared in a movie that wasn’t his was Star Trek. Morgan Freeman previously played the “Alex Cross” character in the movies Kiss The Girls and Along Came A Spider.

Pedophile Advice Book Stirs Controversy

The controversial book seen around the world
The latest controversy burning up the Internet is the availability of Phillip Greaves’ book, The Pedophile’s Guide to Love & Pleasure, which he self-published and was available on Amazon. No, we are not making this up, and yes, you could have gotten it through your Kindle. Customers went crazy and threatened to boycott Amazon unless it removed the offering, which Amazon eventually did. The book is described as an “attempt to make pedophile situations safer for those juveniles … by establishing certain rules for these adults to follow,” which attracted more than 800 angry customer comments. After the book attracted those complaints and coverage in TechCrunch and all of the morning news shows, sales skyrocketed, until Amazon finally pulled the plug. According to Slate.com, the advice book was the 158,221st best-selling e-book on Amazon. After TechCrunch covered the book, it skyrocketed to 146th — “an increase of over 101,000 percent in less than a day,” Gawker’s Adrian Chen notes. It reached 65th place before Amazon pulled it from the site. Yikes! People are up in arms about the book and are questioning whether Amazon, which initially refused to pull the book, should have stricter guidelines for filtering what it sells. The bigger question to us is why so many copies have been sold. Forget Amazon — what does that say about us?

Iyanla Van Zandt

Iyanla Van Zandt is back with a new book Peace From Broken Pieces: How To Get Through What You’re Going Through. For the first time, Iyanla opens up about the past few years in which she lost her daughter, her home, her marriage and her short-lived talk show. She reveals how she hurt Oprah Winfrey and had to apologize for turning her back on Oprah. Today, she is the proud grandmother of 8, and in the book, she talks about how she refused to be defeated in the face of adversity. I loved this book, and I enjoyed hearing Iyanla talk about her journey when I had a chance to interview her. The book arrives in stores November 15th.
