Move over, Glenn Rice and Wyclef—apparently former 76er Charles Barkley has got a Sarah Palinjones as well.
On top of the recent bombshell revelation that Tea Party Palin allegedly had a one-night stand with former NBA player Glenn Rice, Barkley recently announced that he had been “crushin’” on Ms. Right Winger for quite a while.
Barkley appeared on ESPN’s “Waddle and Wally” radio show, where he gave kudos to Rice for allegedly sleeping with the former vice presidential candidate.
“If that story is true, more power to Glenn Rice. I would never vote for her, I’ll always vote Democratic. I think you’ve got a better chance of helping poor people if you vote Democratic…but I’ll always have a thing for Sarah Palin, and when I read that (about the Rice-Palin hookup), Glen Rice is my hero.”
Back in January, Barkley let loose about his attraction to Palin to “30 Rock” star Tracy Morgan. Morgan responded, “Let me tell you something about Sarah Palin; She’s good masturbation material.”
Yes, unfortunately we remember that. Just like it was yesterday.
Charles Barkley never ceases to surprise the world of sports with his over the top comments and crazy, er, interesting ideas. On Monday, the ex-NBA player, and now TNT basketball analyst, expressed disgust with the league players who are really getting caught up with this whole sexual orientation issue.
He suggested that it’s not about what a man does in the bedroom. It’s about how they play. He even said he’s sure he played with gay teammates in the past.
“I didn’t think it … they were gay, he said on Monday about the Phoenix Suns President Rick Welts coming out.
In fact, he can recall possibly playing on three teams with gay players. But it didn’t bother him none. It was about winning and playing well together. And that whole locker room sacredness was not really an issue.
“A guy is never going to put himself in that situation in a professional locker room,” Barkley said. “It never crossed my mind, and I never felt any different about the guy.”
He then emphasized the importance to bring quality back to the game and get rid of sorry players.
“I really like ESPN,” Barkley added. “They do a great job. But like once every two or three months, they bring all these people on there, and they tell me how me and my team are going to respond to a gay guy. First of all, every player has played with gay guys. It bothers me when I hear these reporters and jocks get on TV and say: ‘Oh, no guy can come out in a team sport. These guys would go crazy.’ First of all, quit telling me what I think. I’d rather have a gay guy who can play than a straight guy who can’t play.”
The issue of homophobia is not only a problem, it’s a growing issue amidst the sports world especially with the gay rights movement flourishing at it greatest today.
Barkley, Thompson Blast Masters Head over Tiger Comments. Charles Barkley and John Thompson are fuming over comments made Wednesday at a pre-Masters press conference by Billy Payne (who runs the annual tournament in Augusta) regarding the return of Tiger Woods to his event. Here’s a portion of what Payne said:
As he ascended in our rankings of the world’s great golfers, he became an example to our kids that success is directly attributable to hard work and effort. But as he now says himself, he forgot in the process to remember that with fame and fortune comes responsibility, not invisibility. It is not simply the degree of his conduct that is so egregious here; it is the fact that he disappointed all of us, and more importantly, our kids and our grand kids. Our hero did not live up to the expectations of the role model we saw for our children. Is there a way forward? I hope yes. I think yes. But certainly his future will never again be measured only by his performance against par; but measured by the sincerity of his efforts to change. I hope he now realizes that every kid he passes on the course wants his swing, but would settle for his smile. I hope he can come to understand that life’s greatest rewards are reserved for those who bring joy to the lives of other people. We at Augusta hope and pray that our great champion will begin his new life here tomorrow in a positive, hopeful and constructive manner, but this time, with a significant difference from the past. This year, it will not be just for him, but for all of us, who believe in second chances.
Barkley, among Woods’ inner circle of close friends, was a guest on Fox Sports Radio yesterday and went off. “You got this punk ass Billy Payne who goes on TV. First of all, he ain’t told his kids to be like no Tiger Woods. Let’s quit kidding ourselves,” Barkley said. “For him to get on there and act like he’s all Uncle Tom, he’s the master on the plantation, that pissed me off. And I wish somebody would just walk up to him and punch him in his face.” Barkley wasn’t the only one who upset. Former Georgetown basketball coach John Thompson vented on his own DC radio show, spending two full segments talking about how out-of-line the comments were. He reminded his listeners that Payne has nerve chastising a player for his mistakes when Augusta National Golf Club used to discriminate against blacks and women.
Now that Tiger Woods admitted to cheating on his wife with several women, will he have to drop his friends? In the new issue of Vanity Fair magazine, fingers are clearly pointed at sports greats Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley. The article says these two were in cahoots with Woods and were a bad influence on him. Was it peer pressure? Did Tiger want to just fit in? Sources say yes, and the parties and women were notorious. Woods has solely taken the blame for his actions, but the article says his friends helped and enabled him. Woods returns to golfing with the Masters Tournament, but don’t look for his long suffering wife Elin to be by his side. She will not be attending.
I don’t know about the rest of the blogging world, but this is it for me. I’m truly sick of hearing
about Tiger Woods. Now if he wins the Masters I assure you I will speak of it here, and only the
Masters Tournament. Wish you luck Tiger!
