J.C. Penny Sticks with Ellen DeGeneres Despite Opposition

Despite the opposition, J.C. Penny stuck in there with Ellen DeGeneres.

The comedian/talk show host expressed her gratitude and excitement that the company continued with their new campaign.

She said she’s “proud and happy” that the store stood by her side and said there is no such thing as a “pro-gay bandwagon,” as alleged by the One Million Moms group which encouraged the retail store to drop DeGeneres.

“They (One Million Moms) wanted to get me fired and I am proud and happy to say that J.C. Penney stuck by their decision to make me their spokesperson,” she said.

The group made up of conservative Americans claimed that J.C. Penny was trying to target a new group by “jumping on the pro-gay bandwagon.”

“Being gay or pro-gay isn’t a bandwagon. You don’t get a free ride anywhere. There’s no music. And occasionally we’ll sing ‘We Are Family’ but that’s about it,” she said.

NFL Lockout Back on: St. Louis Court Grants League Request

For all intents and purposes, the NFL lockout of players is back on.

No sooner than players had been allowed to return to their teams for workouts and meetings, a federal appeals court gave the N.F.L. a temporary delay of an injunction Friday, effectively reinstalling the lockout, at least for a few days.

The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis, in a 2-1 decision, granted the league’s request for the temporary stay until the panel of judges had time to decide on a request for a full stay that would keep the lockout in place while an appeal of the injunction players won last week that reopened the league works its way through court. That could take at least a month.

However, the granting of the temporary stay doesn’t necessarily mean the N.F.L. will get the full stay, or that it will win the appeal.

The appeals court will probably rule on the full stay early next week.

Verizon Finally Offers iPhones…and Unlimited Usage

According to the Wall Street Journal, Today Verizon will announce that they are finally offering the iPhone. The mecca of cell phones that AT&T cornered the market with by being the only carrier of the device. But now that Verizon has agreed to carry the phone, they not only break out of the gate with that major announcement, but they trump AT&T by offering unlimited data use plans that are non-existent over at, you guessed it, AT&T!
That ol’ devil Verizon is playing hardball, but experts wonder if they are gambling a little too much with the new venture. The company toots its own horn by boasting the #1 network in America, but is it strong enough to offer such an option to its millions of customers? Even with AT&T’s limited usage plans, they saw problems early on that left people unhappy with the service from the beginning. Remember when we reported in December 2009 that New York couldn’t get service from AT&T, so they stopped selling the iPhone there?

Watch it Verizon! Even though you are supposedly beefing up your system, this too could be you.

Kobe Bryant

LA Lakers Lock Down Kobe Bryant. The Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard Kobe Bryant to a three-year contract extension, it was announced today by General Manager Mitch Kupchak. “We are extremely pleased that we were able to reach an agreement and come to terms on the extension at this time,” said Kupchak. “Kobe has been a cornerstone of the Lakers for well over a decade, helping to lead us to four NBA Championships and in the process developing into one of the greatest players in basketball history.” “Two of our main goals heading into this season were to sign Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol to contract extensions,” continued Kupchak. “With the signing of Pau earlier this season and the signing of Kobe today, we were able to accomplish those goals, helping to keep the core of this team intact for the foreseeable future and in turn help to ensure the franchise’s continued success over the years to come.”
