Did Teena Marie have to die? The 54-year old Ivory Queen Of Soul passed away in her sleep the day after Christmas. Over the past few months, Teena Marie had been having health issues in the form of seizures. A couple of months ago, she suffered a seizure that forced her onto medication. Sources say she hated the way the medicine made her feel. She had a few concerts coming up, and she wanted her energy back. Did she stop taking her medicine to try herbal remedies? Marie’s 19-year old daughter, Alia Rose, found her body, and Marie’s death sent the music world in shock. There will never be another Teena Marie. Her voice was amazing, and she was an incredible writer and producer. She was also a great mother to her daughter. Teena always gave her all in concerts. We had so much fun with her last year in Atlantic City and at the Dell East. Marie was looking forward to getting a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and releasing a new album. She will be missed, but her music will never be forgotten.
This suicide will set a precedent in Internet and/or technology use law for some time to come. The young man that killed himself, allegedly jumped from the George Washington bridge because a night he had with another young man was streamed on the Internet thanks to a webcam his roommate set up.
According to the NY Times, the Rutgers freshman, Tyler Clementi, 18, left a note on his Facebook page the day he committed suicide saying, “Jumping off the gw bridge sorry.” His page has been kept up as a memorial. The incident even occurred just as Rutgers was launching their “Project Civility” campaign, replete with workshops and other events.
The roommate, Dharun Ravi, 18, of Plainsboro, N.J., and his accomplice who is also a student at Rutgers, Molly Wei, 18, of Princeton Junction, N.J., have been charged with two counts of invasion of privacy for using “the camera to view and transmit a live image. ” The maximum sentence for this crime is five years. Ravi was charged with two additional counts of invasion of privacy because this was the second live feed he tried. The other was the day before Clementi jumped, Sept. 21.
What do you think? Should the law be amended to increase the time for those who have been internet bullying, and using their camera pics and other devices for bad? This man’s family was embarrassed along with the memory of him. If he was gay, he wasn’t out of the closet and this is how he will be remembered. Can you think of something more awful? The memory of him has been tarnished forever…long after his death.
As previously reported, conservative radio host and Fox News commentator Glenn Beck is hosting a rally in Washington, D.C., Saturday on the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech — but he says the date was not chosen intentionally.
“Whites don’t own Abraham Lincoln,” Beck said in a recent broadcast of his Fox News show. “Blacks don’t own Martin Luther King. Those are American icons, American ideas, and we should just talk about character, and that’s really what this event is about. It’s about honoring character.”
The “Restoring Honor Rally,” which has Sarah Palin booked to speak, will taking place at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday- the sight of Dr. King’s speech – and is intended to “celebrate America by honoring our heroes,” according to the event’s website.
Beck, who has called President Obama a racist, says the rally is not political, and will even spend time celebrating Dr. King.
Meanwhile…
Rev. Al Sharpton will also hold an event in D.C. on the same day to honor the 47th anniversary of the famous speech.
“When we heard about Glenn Beck, it was puzzling,” Sharpton told the New York Daily News. “Because if you read Dr. King’s speech, it just doesn’t gel with what Mr. Beck or Mrs. Palin are representing.
Beck is expecting approximately 100,000 people at the event.
DC Metro Map
For readers who live in the DC area or are familiar with its metro system, writer Jason Linkins wrote a hilarious piece last week about a real visitors guide from rally organizers warning attendees to avoid certain stops on the Orange and Blue Lines, and to stay away from the Green and Yellow Lines altogether.
Linkins wrote in his Huffington Post piece: ”As someone who rides the Green and Yellow Lines all the time, I can assure you that there are no ‘rules’ that state these subway lines must be avoided at all times, especially at night. But then, I guess I’m not using ‘A Cliche-Ridden Guide To Avoiding The Black People On The Subway In Washington’ as a rulebook.
Now some people are really stupid!!!!
Be sure and cancel your credit cards before you die.
This is so priceless, and so, so easy to see happening, customer service being what it is today.
A lady died this past January, and Citibank billed her for February and March for their annual service charges on her credit card, and added late fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance had been $0.00 when she died, but now somewhere around $60.00. A family member placed a call to Citibank.
Here is the exchange :
Family Member: ‘I am calling to tell you she died back in January.’
Citibank: ‘The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply.’
Family Member: ‘Maybe, you should turn it over to collections.’
Citibank: ‘Since it is two months past due, it already has been’
Family Member: So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?’
Citibank: ‘Either report her account to frauds division or report her to the credit bureau, maybe both!’
Family Member: ‘Do you think God will be mad at her?’
Citibank: ‘Excuse me?’
Family Member: ‘Did you just get what I was telling you – the part about her being dead?’
Citibank: ‘Sir, you’ll have to speak to my supervisor.’
Supervisor gets on the phone:
Family Member: ‘I’m calling to tell you, she died back in January with a $0 balance.’
Citibank: ‘The account was never closed and late fees and charges still apply.’
Family Member: ‘You mean you want to collect from her estate?’
Citibank: (Stammer) ‘Are you her lawyer?’
Family Member: ‘No, I’m her great nephew.’ (Lawyer info was given)
Citibank: ‘Could you fax us a certificate of death?’
Family Member: ‘Sure.’ (Fax number was given )
After they get the fax :
Citibank: ‘Our system just isn’t setup for death. I don’t know what more I can do to help.’
Family Member: ‘Well, if you figure it out, great! If not, you could just keep billing her. She won’t care.’
Citibank: ‘Well, the late fees and charges will still apply.’
(What is wrong with these people?!?)
Family Member: ‘Would you like her new billing address?’
Citibank: ‘That might help..’
Family Member: ‘Odessa Memorial Cemetery, Highway 129, Plot Number 69.’
Citibank: ‘Sir, that’s a cemetery!’
Family Member: ‘And what do you do with dead people on your planet???’
