Amanda Knox Murder Conviction Overturned

PERUGIA, Italy — Amanda Knox, the 24-year-old American found guilty in 2009 of murdering her roommate Meredith Kercher, was a free woman after an appeals court jury on Monday acquitted her and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito.

Amanda Knox is led away from court in tears on Monday after being acquitted in the killing of Meredith Kercher.

Knox, 24, collapsed in tears after the jury declared that the evidence against the two was not reliable.

After briefly returning to prison for a formal discharge, Knox was seen being driven away in a convoy. Rocco Girlanda, an Italian lawmaker who is close to the Knox family, said she planned to leave Italy on Tuesday.

In court, the Kercher family looked on grimly as the verdict was read out by the judge after 11 hours of deliberations by the eight-member jury.

Outside the courthouse, some of the hundreds of observers shouted “Shame, shame!”

The Kercher family issued a brief statement, saying: “We respect the decision of the judges but we do not understand how the decision of the first trial could be so radically overturned. We still trust the Italian justice system and hope that the truth will eventually emerge.”

Relationships – 101

If you both agree at a conscious level that the purpose of your relationship is to create an opportunity, not an obligation – an opportunity for growth, for full Self expreession, for lifting your lives to their highest potential, for healing every false thought or small idea you ever had about you, and for ultimate reunion with God through the communion of your two souls – if you take that vow instead of the vows you’ve been taking – the relationship has begun on a very good note. That’s a very good beginning. Regardless of what the relationship is!

On the other hand, if you enjoy going through relationships like WATER – or worse yet, staying in one because you think you “HAVE TO”, THEN LIVING A LIFE OF QUIET DESPERATION – IF YOU ENJOY REPEATING THESE PATTERNS, from your past, keep right on doing what you’ve been doing.

***********************************************************************************************************

That’s the problem with truth. The truth is relentless. It won’t leave you alone. It keeps creeping up on you from every side, showing you what’s really so. That can be annoying, lol.

Google and Facebook Filtering Christian Speech

The National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) group sounded the alarm Thursday about new media outlets such as Facebook, Google and Apple, which they say have written policies that violate the fundamental rules of free expression, particularly concerning religious free speech, says the Christian Post.

The NRB released a report at the National Press Club Thursday analyzing the various content policies of social networking websites. What they found was disturbing: new media platforms Facebook, Apple, Comcast, AT&T and Google have adopted policies to censor lawful viewpoints expressing Christian views or controversial ideas on “hot button issues.” Some platforms, such as Apple’s iTunes App Store and Google’s search engine, have already started to use those policies to remove orthodox Christian viewpoints considered “offensive” or too controversial.

Former Federal Communications Commission Commissioner Harold Furchtgott-Roth said, “The irony is the companies listed in this report are some of the most open companies in the world.”

In a January 2010 interview with TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington, Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg praised social networking for opening people up to share “more information and different kinds, but more openly and with more people.”

However, Zuckerberg’s social network has removed content deemed “anti-gay,” according to the NRB report. It is unclear whether that censored material contained any religious expression. However, the NRB report warns, “The position of Facebook on the issue of homosexuality and its collaboration with gay right group the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination (GLAAD), coupled with its troublesome written policies, are all strong indicators that its social networking platform poses a high index of risk for anti-Christian discrimination.”

National Council of Negro Women

Washington, D.C. — Continuing their mutual commitment to the lives of Black women, on September 21, 2011, the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), the National Action Network (NAN), I Choose Life Health and Wellness Center (ICL), and members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) will present The Women’s Health Summit:

“Harnessing Our Power: “Mind, Body, and Soul” with a special focus on “HIV/AIDS and African American Women: The Forgotten Population” during the Annual Legislative Caucus (ALC) in Washington, DC. WHUR 96.3 FM-Washington is the official media sponsor.

The Women’s Health Summit will assemble a cohort of experts to discuss the myriad of health concerns and disparities that impact Black women, while also providing insight, valuable information and actions for healthy living.

“There are a plethora of diseases and health issues that continue to disproportionately affect Black women when compared to our counterparts,” says Avis Jones-DeWeever, PhD, author, policy analyst, and Executive Director, NCNW. “As organizations that are invested in the lives of Black women, we wanted to band together to encourage a holistic dialogue that’s solution-based and helps Black women to lead mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy lives.”

Not only are African American women more at risk for heart disease, cancer, stroke, high blood pressure, and diabetes, Black women also have the highest rates of obesity, are mostly likely to die during childbirth and mostly likely to suffer the tragedy of infant mortality. Regarding other areas of concern, African American women are less likely to receive accurate mental health diagnoses than their Caucasian counterparts. Additionally, African-American women experience domestic violence at a rate that’s 35% higher than Caucasian women and thus account for a disproportionate number of intimate partner homicides.

AIDS still remains a devastating killer of Black women, yet they continue to be relegated to footnotes in national dialogues. The rates of new HIV infections for Black women is nearly 15 times as high as that of Caucasian women and AIDS diagnosis for African American women is at a rate of 20 times higher.  HIV/AIDS-related conditions are now the leading cause of death for African American women aged 25-34 years.

The Women’s Health Summit will “host a panel focused on overall health to tackle domestic violence/sexual assault, sexual health and reproduction, mental health, infant mortality, and obesity.” And in efforts to reduce the continued impact of HIV/AIDS on Black women, the summit will also convene “HIV/AIDS and African American Women: The Forgotten Population,” a special focus panel, that will look back on the thirty years of the pandemic. The range of experts who will serve as summit panelists include: Gail Wyatt, PhD, University of Southern California; Tony Wafford, President & CEO, I Choose Life; Laura Meyers, PhD, President & CEO, Planned Parenthood-Metropolitan;  Willie J. Parker, MD, MPH, Former Medical Director, Planned Parenthood-Metropolitan;  Jamila Perritt, MD, Present Medical Director, Planned Parenthood-Metropolitan; Debra Fraser-Howze, Senior Vice President of Government and External Affairs, OraSure Technologies, Inc.; Dazon Dixon-Dialo, MPH, SisterLove; Monica Sweeney, MD, New York City Health Department; Cynthia Davis, MPH, Board Member, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Assistant Professor, Medical Sciences Institute, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science.

Panel moderators will be: WHUR 96.3 FM news reporter Molette Green; Jeff Johnson, award-winning journalist, social activist and political commentator; Dr. Avis Jones-DeWeever, Executive Director, NCNW, and Dr.Tricia Bent-Goodley, Chair of the CAPS Sequence, Howard University, School of Social Work.

“We’re coming together to show Black women that despite these devastating facts, they are not alone,” says Tony Wafford, President & CEO, I Choose Life.  “As a unified force, we can develop solutions to enhance, preserve and protect the lives of Black women.”

The Women’s Health Summit will take place on Wednesday, September 21 from 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm at the National Headquarters of NCNW, 633 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20004.   Spacing is limited; please RSVP at
ncnwprograms@gmail.com.

This summit will be sponsored by the following; Act Against AIDS Leadership Initiative (AAALI), AIDS Healthcare Foundation, (AHF), Office of Minority Health, (OMH), Office on Women’s Health (OWH), and Vitas.

Female Jockey Aims for History at Derby

New Jersey native Rosie Napravnik hopes to make a little history today by becoming the first female jockey to win the Kentucky Derby. She heads into the day with 20-1 odds aboard Pants on Fire, reports the Star-Ledger in a profile. Napravnik, 23, will be the sixth woman to ride in the Derby, and she’s got a solid track record behind her—first-, second-, or third-place finishes in 52% of her 445 starts.

It helps that she grew up on a horse farm. “As soon as she could hold her head up, she probably sat on a horse,” her mom, Cindy, tells the newspaper. Napravnik began racing at age 7 and steadily moved up the ranks while juggling school classes. “I was so overworked and tired and you know what, it didn’t even bother me,” she says. “It was exactly what I wanted to be doing.”

Wendy Williams Sued for Being Salty During Paid Appearance

TMZ is reporting that Wendy Williams was sued by a concert promoter who claims she was paid $25,000 to appear at an Atlantic City resort, but her conduct at the event “was best described as … ungrateful.”

According to the lawsuit, Williams was scheduled to make a two-hour appearance at The Pool at Harrah’s Resort. The suit claims Williams hardly mingled with guests and left after only an hour — after complaining how she and her husband wanted to leave.

The talk show host and “Dancing With the Stars” contestant was supposed to take the mic on stage, but instead retreated to a cabana, the lawsuit states.

The suit also claims Williams “disappointed her fans who came out expecting her to host the party,” and alleges she demanded four bottles of Ace of Spades champagne and two bottles of white wine at her cabana.

The lawsuit states Williams and her husband said they wanted to be left alone while they drank.

MATH CHALLENGE!

Who thinks they’re good at math? Okay, you’ve decided YOU are.

Yes, when we follow the directions as stated below we will all arrive at 111 as our answer.

However, the challenge for you is this:

Work out how exactly everyone can end up with 111, when all of us will have different birth dates??

Your Challenge:

This year we will experience 4 unusual dates…. 1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11, 11/11/11 ….

NOW go figure this out…. take the last 2 digits of the year you were born plus the age you will be this year and it WILL BE EQUAL TO 111….. go ahead…do the math.

Are you still up for the challenge??

Sarah Palin Disses Michelle Obama on TLC Show

Sarah Palin took a shot at Michelle Obama during Sunday’s episode of her reality TV show, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” alleging the first lady’s anti-obesity campaign attempts to deprive Americans of dessert.

While searching for s’mores ingredients on a family camping trip, Palin remarked: “Where are the s’mores ingredients? This is in honor of Michelle Obama, who said the other day we should not have dessert.”

Mrs. Obama has been a key proponent of an initiative to improve children’s health by encouraging better diets and sufficient exercise. In May she announced her “Let’s Move” program, which promoted dessert alternatives, among other dietary suggestions.

One in 3 American children is overweight or obese, putting them at higher risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and other illnesses. Obesity is even more prevalent among black and Hispanic children. Some public health experts say today’s children are on track to live shorter lives than their parents.

But Palin has maintained that Obama’s effort to combat child obesity — which was recently aided by the passage of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act — is one that seeks to take away “God-given rights to make our own decisions.”

During an appearance on Laura Ingraham’s radio program last month, Palin complained: “Instead of a government thinking that they need to take over and make decisions for us according to some politician or politician’s wife priorities, just leave us alone, get off our back.”

THE 5 HIDDEN REASONS MID-LIFE MEN LEAVE

Trying to maintain and strengthen a healthy mid-life relationship isn’t easy. I hear from hundreds of women who tell me that their husbands have suddenly told them they no longer wish to be married. Men tell me that when they reached 50 something shifted in them and they just couldn’t imagine living the rest of their lives with the woman they’ve been sharing the same bed with for 30 or 35 years. Both men and women seem mystified to understand and explain what’s going on. “I could understand it,” one woman told me, “if he had been unhappy or we had been fighting. But there doesn’t seem to be any real reason he wants to leave. This is happening to my friends as well. What’s going on?”

In the last 42 years that I have been counseling men and women I have found an increasingly common phenomenon: Men who leave their wives for no apparent reason. It’s as though they wake up one morning and all the air has gone out of the relationship balloon. They look at the woman beside them, the same woman they vowed undying love for when they married, the same woman they said only weeks before that he couldn’t imagine a life without. Now he looks at her and he can’t wait to get away.

The simple answer you read about in every woman’s magazine is some variation on this theme: Men get tired of their older wives and hunger for an “arm charm” who is sexy, beautiful and who wants to ride off in the sunset on his new Harley that he was hungered for all his life; and now damn it he deserves a new bike and a new girlfriend to ride on the back.

But as Paul Harvey would tell us, you need to stay tuned for the rest of the story.

1. Men’s biological clock.

We all know that women go through menopause, after which they can no longer reproduce. Men go through Andropause, and though they experience many similar symptoms to what women go through, they come out the other side and can still have children. Many men leave, unconsciously of course, because they are drawn by their genes to “find someone young and reproductively viable to spread their genes and make more babies.”

2. Mr. nice guy get’s tired of being nice.

In the last 25 or 30 years as women have become more “liberated” they have wanted men who were more feeling, responsive, and attuned to the needs of the new woman. Many men responded and tried to be the kind of man these women wanted. They learned to change diapers, spend more time with the kids, do the dishes, and suppress their fantasies. The problem is they made a lot of changes to please the women in their lives and neglected to make the deep shifts in their own lives that would keep them in touch with their own needs. They became “nice.” Many women thought they were in heaven, that they had the prince charming they had dreamed about. However, at mid-life many nice guys run out of steam. They know how to please the woman, but have lost touch with how to please themselves. Many leave rather than face the fact that they have sold themselves out.

3. The problems that got covered over.

Related to the Mr. Nice Guy problem is that couples often avoid dealing with issues early on in their relationship and these problems come back to bite them later in life. It may be an affair or a serious romance that “being the liberated couple that we are, we learn to accept.” It could be having children that he never really wanted. It could be an intrusive in-law that they never dealt with. It could be a lack of good sex and deep intimacy that they let slide for too long. Whatever the problem, there comes a point where it bubbles to the surface. Since it has been avoided for so long, it’s easier for him to leave than have to go back and deal with the old wounds.

4. Child-hood wounds surface.

Most men, if we are honest with ourselves, grow up in families where we are abused. The abuse may be obvious: An alcoholic or violent father, a depressed mother, a brother who sexually molests you. Or other kinds of obvious abuse and neglect. The abuse can also be more subtle. A hard-working Dad who was never around. A mother who “loved you to death” and gave you no space to grow. A stressful environment that kept everyone anxious and worried. Whatever the problem they often surface at midlife. They act like sand in the gears of a smooth relationship and can often force it to grind to a halt.

5. Mid life depression.

Many men reach mid-life and their emotional world begins to come apart. The slide may be triggered by physical illness, the death of a parent, the loss of a job, or the dying of a dream. They begin to feel that their life has no direction. It’s as though the rudder of their ship has been damaged and they can’t steer a straight course. They feel lost and alone and terrified. However, on the outside they may appear to be on top of the world. They are successful a work and good husbands and fathers at home. However, the rust of despair is eating away at the foundation of their lives. Afraid to confront the wreckage of the past, they go for the quick fix. Their unconscious mind grabs a hold of their psyches and whispers, “Get away, get away. It’s your old life and your old wife that is the problem. Create a new life and everything will be fine.”

Contrary to literary tales, we must go home again. We can’t run away from ourselves. Mid-life is either a time of withdrawal and retreat or a time to go deeper. We either heal the old wounds or they will eat away at our bones.
