Food for thought………

The degree to which a culture is evolved is demonstrated by the degree to which it labels a being or an action……”shameful” or “guilty”.

Glenn Beck – off the air hope so!

For Glenn Beck, it may have just been business as usual when he compared “social justice” to Communism and Nazism last week and told parishioners to leave churches that espouse the doctrine, but the comments irked one leader enough for him to call for a boycott by all Christians. Rev. Jim Wallis heads Sojourners, a Christian antipoverty group. Whatever Beck’s reasons, he writes on his blog, “what he has said attacks the very heart of our Christian faith, and Christians should no longer watch his show.”

Beck called social justice a “code word” for Communism and Nazism, Politics Daily reports. Communism and Nazism? “They both subscribe to one philosophy,” he explained, and “here in America” that’s social justice. “Am I advising people to leave their church? Yes!” Whoa, say religious scholars. It’s not just hippy-dippy East Coast churches that preach social justice. “One way to read the Book of Mormon is that it’s a vast tract on social justice,” a historian tells the New York Times of Beck’s chosen faith. “A lot of Latter-day Saints would think that Beck was asking them to leave their own church.”

PASTORS – No more job security

TOO MANY PASTORS, NOT ENOUGH PULPITS: Methodist Church Pastors on the Chopping BLOCK. Pastors affiliated with the United Methodist Church could find themselves in the unemployment line. According to The Tennessean.com, the long-standing practice of guaranteed jobs for pastors could come to an end. Methodist bishops and two denominational committees want to end job security for ministers, known as guaranteed appointment. And shrinking membership and budgets may give Methodist leadership what they want by default. But as membership has dropped, so has the number of churches able to afford pastors. In 1960, United Methodists claimed about 10.8 million members. Today, membership is at 7.8 million. Average Sunday attendance is about 95 people. And half of Methodist churches draw 50 or fewer people to Sunday services. A church needs about 125 people to support a full-time minister. In some cases, elders serve two or more churches at a time. Many churches are served by part-time or local pastors who have no job security.

RELIGIOUS VALEDICTORIAN

RELIGIOUS VALEDICTORIAN: U.S. Supreme Court rules in Nebraska Case. The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from a Christian student who complained that high school officials violated her constitutional rights when they turned off her microphone during her graduation speech. The justices said they will not revive a lawsuit filed by Brittany McComb of Henderson, Nev. challenging the actions of Clark County school officials. A federal appeals court previously ruled against her. During McComb’s speech at the Foothill High School graduation in 2006, officials turned off McComb’s microphone when the school valedictorian strayed from an approved text to provide a graphic account of Jesus’ crucifixion and credit God for her success in school.

GOOD SAMARITAN MURDERED

GOOD SAMARITAN MURDERED: New Minister allegedly killed by someone she had helped. The murder of 35-year-old Mashonda Griffin in her Grand Rapids, MI home last year was a blow to her fellow church members–especially when they learned one of the people charged in her death was a former parishioner whom Griffin had helped in the past. The Religion News Service reported that Griffin’s death was an apparent botched robbery. Now the two men charged could face life-time prison sentences with life terms. “It pretty much was the biggest thing I faced as a pastor,” the Rev. James Stokes said of the woman, who had been a member of Stokes’ Church of God in Christ congregation for 16 years. And he’s the person who mentored Griffin when she chose to open her home to fellow church members. From the start, the intent has been to provide confidential, Christ-centered ministry nationwide for pastors and their spouses, with the primary plan of helping them stay in ministry. But after Griffin’s death Stokes said he plans to handle things differently. Stokes said Griffin’s murder has made him realize the importance of support for ministerial staff, as well as the need to evaluate anybody who is in a position to be counseled.

10 THINGS THAT CAN AGGRAVATE YOU AT CHURCH

10 THINGS THAT CAN AGGRAVATE YOU AT YOUR CHURCH:

1. People who over use the tambourine. Look! Everybody ain’t meant to beat it. When you don’t do it right, it is truly aggravating and a nuisance. KNOCK IT OFF! Be still and sing like everybody else during the slow songs.

2. People who fake the Spirit. Just because your friend felt the “touch” doesn’t mean you did too. If you start running around the church and you have to stop because you’re out of breath after going only half a lap around the pews, we know you haven’t been touched. SIT DOWN.

3. People who constantly holler something to the pastor all during the message. We don’t need you to comment after every sentence the preacher makes (giving a blow-by-blow commentary). We know the preacher is ‘preaching’ and we know the preacher is probably talking to you. SHUT UP so you can hear what the preacher has to say to you.

4. People who constantly go to the bathroom. Nobody has to use the bathroom four times during service and you’re clearly not on a date. If you have an incontinence problem, you should get in the prayer line and ask for healing. If not, SIT YOUR BEHIND DOWN.

5. People who can’t or won’t control their kids. How in the world can we concentrate on hearing the Word, if little Jay-Jay is running all up and down the aisle and going back and forth to the bathroom. The Bible says, if you “spare the rod, you’ll spoil the child,” You need to BEAT HIS TAIL.

6. People who take ‘Come AS YOU ARE’ to a whole new level. I can understand if you going through something. But if you got a fresh pair of Jordan ‘s on and a T-shirt, then you can certainly invest in some dress clothes and take your earrings and nose rings out. Since when is it OK for men to wear hats in the church and wear their pants to their ankles? GET IT TOGETHER!

7. People who bring food to church. If you brought your baby a little snack, but you’re eating all his cookies and crackers .. dropping crumbs everywhere then that’s a problem. Take those Cheezits, Oreos and little Rae-kwon outside. This is GOD’S HOUSE, NOT YOURS!!!

8. People who come to special church functions and criticize. If you’re standing in a corner gossiping about how you could’ve done a better job at something and you haven’t volunteered to help with anything and haven’t showed up to any invitations to join a ministry, I’m going to have to ask you to SHUT-UP !

9. People who obviously show they don’t like you. If you don’t care for a person too much for whatever reason, at least put up a decent front and ACT like you have some Christian love! When you come to church, you should look past people’s shortcomings. Don’t cut somebody up with your evil faces and smart remarks. CUT IT OUT!

10. Finally, parents who dress better than their kids. If you come in looking like an Ebony Fashion Fair model and little Sha-nay-nay is dragging behind you looking like a poster child for ‘Feed the Children,’ you are just DEAD WRONG! Give your child a “Just For Me”, wipe your child’s nose, comb your child’s hair (including the edges, and the ‘kitchen’), and buy them something decent to wear. Don’t come out of the house looking like a MILLION BUCKS while your kid is looking ‘homeless’. YOU KNOW YOU’RE WRONG!

Let the Church say, ‘AMEN!’
