*It was just a few years ago that media outlets had a field day when shocking photos of a man dressed in drag–allegedly boxing great Oscar De La Hoya—ignited international headlines.
The photos depicted a man in a hotel room sparring in a fishnet body suit, women’s panties, high heels and a brunette wig. At the time, De La Hoya vehemently denied that it was him in the photos.
But in a recent interview with Spanish-language Univision television, De La Hoya—nicknamed “The Golden Boy” who reportedly generated more money than any other boxer in the history of the sport, an estimated $696 million–admitted that he did actually pose for the photos.
The photos caused a sensation in 2007, when De La Hoya’s lawyers did damage control by arguing that it was not the boxing great but a “bad Photoshop job.”
“His head is too small and it doesn’t even look like his body,” his handlers argued.
But during the Univision interview, De La Hoya said, “Let me tell you, it was me. I’m tired of lying, lying to people, lying to myself.”
De La Hoya said he was snorting cocaine and guzzling booze when the revealing photos were snapped.
At the time, the very married De La Hoya was having an affair with stripper Milana Dravnel, who sold the photos to the press. De La Hoya’s lawyers claimed that Dravnel was “out for money”.
Dravnel filed a federal lawsuit against De La Hoya, claiming that De La Hoya’s handlers coerced her into agreeing that the photos were manipulated. The lawsuit was settled out of court, but courthouse sources revealed that De La Hoya shelled out a whopping $20 million to make Dravnel “go away.”
De La Hoya allegedly also ordered Dravnel to return the heels, fishnet and lingerie he had posed in during the infamous photo shoot.
During the Univision interview, an emotional De La Hoya revealed that he had been battling alcohol and drugs for years. “My drug of choice was cocaine and alcohol. Cocaine was recent. I depended more on the alcohol than the cocaine.”
He also admitted that he had “cheated” on his wife of 10 years.
“We are obviously not talking Tiger Woods here, but I was unfaithful,” he admitted.
The boxer said he had contemplated suicide after hitting rock bottom with alcohol and drugs.
The boxing champ, who admitted said he had started drinking at the age of 9, revealed that he was deeply affected when his mom, Cecelia, passed away from breast cancer in 1990. He added that drugs and alcohol helped him escape the pain of his mother’s death. “It (drugs and alcohol) took me to a place where I felt safe, it took me to a place where I felt as if nobody can say anything to me, it took me to a place where I can just reach out and grab my mom,” he told the Mail Online.
Seve Ballesteros, one of golf’s most gifted and charismatic players, has died after a long battle with cancer.
The 54-year-old passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Pedrena, northern Spain, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Ballesteros was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2008 after losing consciousness at Madrid Airport.
The five-time major winner had four operations to remove the tumour as well as undergoing chemotherapy.
The funeral will take place on Wednesday at the San Pedro parish church in his home village of Pedrena, near Santander.
In a statement, the Ballesteros family expressed gratitude for the “support and gestures of love” they had received and asked for “respect and privacy at such a painful time”.
Ballesteros, who claimed 87 titles over his career, won the Open in 1979, 1984 and 1988 and became the first European to win the Augusta Masters in 1980, repeating the feat in 1983.
He also enjoyed a successful Ryder Cup career as both player and captain – playing in eight Ryder Cups and winning 20 points from 37 matches before guiding Europe to victory over the United States at Valderrama in 1997.
But it was his daring and flamboyant style that made Ballesteros special, transforming the image of golf and bringing a whole new audience to the sport.
Baltimore’s finest have shown themselves to be Baltimore’s dumbest. They were making so much easy side money–which for most didn’t amount to more than gas money–through a scam they were running with a local tow and repair shop that they got sloppy…and they got caught! The police commissioner was so outraged by the caper that he made himself available to personally retrieve their badges.
According to local NBC channel WBAL, Majestic Body Shop is owned by two brothers, Hernan Alexis Moreno Mejia and Edwin Javier Mejia, who were paying police officers to drive business to their shop. The officers would respond to an accident and recommend that the drivers use Majestic Body Shop for towing. They would also promote the business for all the repair work and tell the driver that Majestic would take care of the insurance claims for them. Normally, the police officers are supposed to recommend a “city-authorized” company, but they were writing false reports saying that the driver arranged for their own towing. Then the police officer would show up to the shop to receive their payment–most in the amount of $300.
Federal agents raided the shop and the officers were ordered to meet at the city police academy under the guise of an equipment issue. The police commissioner, Fred Bealefeld, was there waiting to personally snatch their badges from them. “I will not tolerate any criminal activity that undermines the integrity of the Baltimore Police Department and the many sacrifices our officers make each and every day,” said Commissioner Bealefeld. But, where is all this righteousness when police officers are authorizing drug sells in our communities? Has anyone seen The Wire?
In other words, there’s no great, historic, heroic bust here. Yes! The officers were wrong, so wrong that they got the attention of the FBI. But, with all the drugs on the street it makes me wonder why this particular crime got the attention of FEDERAL AUTHORITIES. Could it be that the body shop was owned by Hispanics who owned up to the fact that everyone involved were people they knew from the Hispanic community? Once again, minorities making themselves the example for the day.
Maybe you’ve attended a three-year old birthday party that extends into the wee hours of the night at a hall, but certainly that should still seem unusual. Right? The birthday party in question took place outside Cincinnati in an area called Elmwood Place. According to Cincinnati.com, about 30 children were present about 1 a.m. to see the fight between 75 adults.
Ramon Marcelo-Hernandez, 26, of Norwood is the father of the three-year old girl who was supposed to be celebrating when her daddy was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated. Police arrived from Cincinnati and other nearby agencies responded to the riot-like affair.
Once police swarmed on the scene, there was blood, broken bottles and injuries everywhere. There were nearly 150 people in the midst of chaos. But since everyone spoke Spanish a lot of the details are still blurry.
Isaiah Mustafa, the former NFL player whose fame skyrocketed as “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like,” has just been cast opposite Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman in Warner Bros. upcoming comedy “Horrible Bosses.”
The film follows three friends who conspire to murder their awful bosses for standing in the way of their happiness. Mustafa will portray a police officer.
“It’s a smaller role, but who wouldn’t want to be in one of these funny, irreverent comedies?” Mustafa tells the Hollywood Reporter. “The cast is great. I’m playing a cop because I play these authoritative characters well. I don’t know exactly who I’m in the scene with — maybe Jennifer Aniston.”
The casting in “Horrible Bosses” follows parts in Tyler Perry’s “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf,” as well as an upcoming guest spot on NBC’s action-comedy “Chuck.”
All this comes on the heels of Nielsen data indicating that sales of Old Spice body products are up a monumental 107% in the past month as a result of his Emmy-nominated spots, and the Old Spice YouTube channels have been viewed more than 58 million times.
Mustafa’s second ad for the company premiered in recent weeks, and it could be his last.
“As far as commercials, I don’t think there are any more lined up,” he says. “They could always change their mind and want more. I signed on to be their spokesperson for a year, so I still have a few months left.”

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) — A magnitude-7.1 earthquake struck central Chile Sunday night, the strongest and longest that many people said they had felt since a huge quake devastated the area two years ago. There were no immediate reports of deaths or major damage.
The quake struck at 7:30 p.m. about 16 miles (27 kilometers) north-northwest of Talca, a city of more than 200,000 people where residents said the shaking lasted about a minute.
Buildings swayed in Chile’s capital 136 miles (219 kilometers) to the north, and people living along a 480-mile (770-kilometer) stretch of Chile’s central coast were briefly warned to head for higher ground.
Residents were particularly alarmed in Constitucion, where much of the coastal downtown at the mouth of a river was obliterated by the tsunami caused by the 8.8-magnitude quake in 2010.
Panic also struck in Santiago and other cities, with people running out of skyscrapers, and many neighborhoods were left partly or totally without electrical power. Phone service was disrupted by heavy use.
“There are some injuries but nothing serious,” said Interior Minister Rodrigo Hinzpeter, who was serving as acting president while Sebastian Pinera is on tour in Asia.
