Tony Lee, a former janitor for Ring Masters, a company that makes engine rings in Massillon, Ohio, bought the factory he was working in after it cut several workers and turned the company into a profitable business.
Lee studied business on his own and raised $25,000 to buy the factory after taking out a second mortgage on his house.
Today Ring Masters has over $4 million in annual sales.
For Tony, this was just one more obstacle to overcome. After taking a second mortgage on his house, selling his motorcycle and literally scrounging for loose change, Tony had the money and was in on the deal. Actually he was “all in;” failure was not an option for Tony.
Now, 9 years later, Ring Masters is a thriving business with over $4 million in annual sales. From 15 workers at the start, the company now has over 20 employees, a growing list of clients and plans for further expansion.
Tony says he’s recouped his $25,000 investment “several times over” and is now a co-owner of a growing business. For anyone who’s ever thought ‘I can run the company better than my boss’, Tony Lee is an inspiration. And he’s still inspiring his co-workers and employees by working side-by-side with them on the factory floor. Tony says he “leads by example” and would never ask an employee to do a job he wasn’t willing to do.

Markets have risen on hopes that Greece will finally secure a massive but long-delayed international bailout, allowing the debt-crippled country to avoid defaulting on its debts next month.
A surprise easing in monetary policy in China over the weekend also added to the buoyant mood in markets on Monday – many stock indexes are trading at multi-month highs, while the euro has recovered its poise.
The main focus of attention – on a day when Wall Street is shut for a public holiday – will be Brussels, where the finance ministers from the 17 euro zone countries are gathering to discuss the elusive Greek bailout deal.
After some euro zone countries suggested last week that they might prefer Greece to default, the latest comments indicate the ministers will approve the 130-billion-euro ($A160 billion) bailout.
Greece has struggled to convince its partners in the euro zone, particularly Germany, that it will enact the austerity and reform measures in return for the cash.
As the finance ministers arrived for the meeting, which may last until well into the night, they appeared ready to back the deal.
“I am of the opinion that today we have to deliver, because we don’t have any more time,” Jean-Claude Juncker, the prime minister of Luxembourg who also chairs the meetings of euro zone finance ministers, said as he arrived in Brussels.
Alongside the bailout, Greece is expected to conclude debt-reduction discussions with its private creditors. That should slice off about 100 billion euros from Greece’s debt mountain. Even after that, Greece will have the highest debt burden of all the euro countries.
Efforts to legalize marijuana for recreational use are gaining momentum in Washington state and Colorado, despite fierce opposition from the federal government and a decades-long cultural battle over America’s most commonly used illicit drug.
Officials in Washington state on Friday said an initiative to legalize pot has enough signatures to qualify for the ballot in November. In Colorado, officials are likely this week to make a similar determination about an initiative there.
Supporters are prepared to possibly spend millions of dollars ahead of the November ballot, when they hope a strong voter turnout, particularly among youth, for the U.S. presidential election will aid their cause.
“Whether it’s make or break depends on what public opinion does after 2012, but in terms of voter turnout this is the best year to do it,” said Alison Holcomb, director of New Approach Washington, the initiative’s sponsor.
While 16 states, including Washington and Colorado, along with the nation’s capital, now allow marijuana use for medical purposes, cannabis remains an illegal narcotic under U.S. law – and public opinion is sharply divided on the merits of full legalization.
California voters turned back a ballot initiative to legalize marijuana for recreational use in 2010, in part because of concerns about how production and sale of the drug would be regulated.
Undeterred, supporters of the Washington state initiative say it represents the “grown-up” approach to legalization.
Sales would only be allowed to adults 21 and older through marijuana-only stores licensed by the state Liquor Control Board, which would also oversee production and processing of the drug. Laws on drunken driving would be amended to include maximum blood content thresholds for THC, the main psychoactive element in pot plants.
Colorado already has a robust regulatory system for medical marijuana that includes a registry of over 80,000 card-carrying patients and rules governing how physicians and distributors operate. Here, too, legalization advocates are stressing a rational regulatory approach.
“Voters aren’t being asked to imagine as much as they are in other states, they have seen that marijuana can be regulated and it doesn’t result in significant problems,” said Mason Tvert, co-director of the Colorado-based Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol.
Organizers of the Washington effort have collected over $1.1 million in campaign funds, with $250,000 of that coming from Progressive Insurance chairman Peter Lewis, public disclosure records show.
Loren Collingwood, senior researcher for the nonpartisan Washington Poll run by the University of Washington, said the initiative could pass, but that backers must spend between $2 million and $4 million to run a competitive campaign.
A poll done by the university in October found 48 percent of Washington residents support the idea of pot legalization, but that was not tied to any particular initiative.
“If young voters turn out in droves like they did in 2008 or even start to approach those numbers … then I think this will pass, but they very well may not,” Collingwood said.
Pot legalization supporters have argued for decades that prohibition has failed to curb pot use, and that the policy enriches drug cartels, hurts casual users and deprives governments of a potentially lucrative source of tax revenue.

September 2011 Horoscopes – Straight Talk!
SINGAPORE —
Starbucks Corp is planning to triple the number of its coffee shops in China during the next four years.
Starbucks Asia Pacific President Jinlong Wang told reporters Tuesday in Singapore that the world’s largest coffee retailer plans to operate 1,500 outlets in China by 2015 from a current 470.
Wang said the company also expects to open 700 coffee shops in South Korea by 2016, up from 370 now.
He said Starbucks is preparing to open its first outlets in India next year and in Vietnam in 2013.
Starbucks said in July that revenue from its international business rose 20% in the April-June quarter from a year earlier and accounted for 23 percent of overall sales of $2.93 billion.
Chinese police rescued 89 infants kidnapped for sale and arrested 369 people they said were linked to two human trafficking rings this month, state media reported on Wednesday.
In the first case, the traffickers, who were mostly Vietnamese residents, abducted children from Vietnam and sold them in China’s southern regions of Guangdong and Guangxi, the ChinaDaily said, citing an unnamed officer from Guangdong’s provincial department of public security.
In mid-July, police detained 39 suspects in connection with trafficking and rescued eight infants, aged 10 days to seven months, who had been drugged with sleeping pills, the newspaper said.
In another crackdown this month, police arrested 330 people suspected of involvement in the trafficking of baby girls, the newspaper said. The police operation took place across 14 provinces.
‘One child’ policy
The 81 infants rescued in this operation were aged 10 days to four months and are now in the care of institutions, the report said.
Efforts by China, the world’s most populous nation, to contain population growth through a strict “one child” policy, coupled with the country’s long tradition of favoring boys, have contributed to the rise in cases of trafficking in children and women.
Women are sold to men in remote areas who are unable to find brides due to the sex imbalance resulting from China’s one-child which has encouraged sex-selective abortions.
Police set up a special task force in February following the discovery of a child kidnap ring in the Guangxi region, the newspaper said.
Another trafficking operation was broken up in the poor southwestern province of Yunnan this May.
The report said that police have uncovered 39,194 cases of human trafficking in China since April 2009, the majority of the cases involving women or children.
Children were aged from just 10 days to seven months
Whoa, it’s going down. And that’s putting it mildly with the situation between Tom Joyner and Tavis Smiley.
Simply put, Joyner, who served as co-host/MC, along with Angela Bassett at theMcDonalds365Black luncheon at the Essence Festival on Friday, is flat out saying that Tavis Smiley along with his “side-piece,” Cornel West is responsible for the climate that’s made it comfortable for Obama haters like Time magazine’s Mark Halperin to call President Obama a “dick.”
The reaction to Joyner’s commentary is bound to be “interesting” to say the least and it’ll be surprising if it doesn’t set off a firestorm of reactions in Black America and beyond.
My New D-Word for Tavis and Cornel
Before I get to Mark Halperin, let me give you a little background. They say that if you’re angry with someone, you should write a letter, get all the mean stuff out, and then tear it up or delete it. When you’re a little more calm, you write another letter or confront the person face to face.
About a month ago, I wrote a blog about Tavis Smiley and decided to table it because I said some things I didn’t want to publish. You’re probably thinking I went too hard him, but no. In reality, I hadn’t gone hard enough – and I knew it. I said I’d wait until something pissed me off so bad that I would have the words harsh enough to express what I was really feeling about him and his side piece – I mean side kick – Cornel West.
Well, yesterday, when Mark Halperin – a well-respected journalist, employed by a well-respected magazine and a contributor to a well-respected news network – had the audacity to call the president of the United States a dick, that was all I needed.
While I am appalled at Halperin’s statement, I have no expectations of him as a man and know nothing about his character. I am appalled, however, that as editor-at-large of Time magazine, he is responsible for among other things, deciding what stories will be covered in that publication. As the person in charge of political content, it is upsetting to know that he probably has not been objective in his dealings with material I and so many people look forward to (until now) reading each week. Needless to say, I’ve cancelled my subscription to Time magazine and hope you will too.
But I’m even more disgusted with Smiley and West, two brothers who I did have expectations of – and thought I knew. These two have done much worse than what Halperin has done because they set the tone for it, opened the door to it, and must take much of the blame for creating a climate that would make a white, professional journalist feel comfortable verbally and vulgarly attacking the first black president of the United States.
When you think you know a person, when you’ve given a person a forum to present his views, when you’ve had a hand in a person’s success, you want to believe that he is the same person he always was.
Remember THAT Tavis – the one who could take any complicated political story that had an impact on black America and “break it down” for us every Tuesday and Thursday in less than five minutes. The one who coined the phrase “radio advocacy” and alerted us any time anyone – from a private business owner to a politician to a corporate giant – even thought about doing black folks wrong. The Tavis that loved black people so much that he would sometimes, during his commentaries, be moved to tears. Where is that guy? You know, the guy that would have been telling me, “Fly Jock, Halperin has got to go.” For a while, I thought he was still with us, even though people around me (and many of you) tried to convince me otherwise. “Tavis is a hater.” “Tavis is only about himself.” “Tavis is jealous of the president.” I wouldn’t believe any of it. I had so much respect for him before his primary goal became selling books, and, later, selling out.
As we approach the Fourth of July weekend, one that celebrates our freedoms, including freedom of speech, I wish someone would use that as a defense of what Tavis, Cornel and Mark Halperin have said against our president. When dangerous words incite and brew up hatred and violence, there is a line. And these three crossed it.
In case you believe I think Tavis and Cornel called the president an offensive name, I don’t. I think they did something even worse. Any black people with any sense know that racists on the job, at school, at church or on the bus wait for opportunities to feel comfortable enough to spew their evil thoughts. If a black person tells a racist joke in front of a racist or laughs at one, it won’t be long before the racist begins to fire off a couple of his own. Mark Halperin and others are no different. They hate the president because he is black, and Tavis and Cornel, by not having the sense to not give them the opening they waited for, went all in. And this is what we get.
So, yes, MSNBC, fire Mark Halperin. I hope he never works again. I’ve already fired Tavis and Cornel. There’s nothing either can ever do for me or with me again.
I’ve got a new D-word for the two of them: Done.
Like we said, this is definitely a “Whoa!” moment. Based on the tone of the piece, one can only wonder if there’s something really personal coloring Tom’s comments as well. What do you think?
According to multiple sources, an explosion occurred earlier today at the Foxconn factory in Chengdu, China. The factory is one of Apple’s leading manufacturing plants.
Two people were killed in the explosion and 16 injured, all of whom were Foxconn employees. More than ten fire engines, ambulances, and police cars were at the scene. It took place in the A5 building of the factory, which supposedly operates as a “polishing plant” for the production of Apple’s iPad 2.
The extent of the damage is still unclear, but supply analysts say it will most probably have an effect on the production of the iPad, which has been in a short supply of late. The factory has suspended production until an investigation is completed.
In a statement, Foxconn said it is “working with medical officials to provide treatment to the injured employees and we are working with government and law enforcement officials to contact the families of all employees affected by this tragedy.”
After 10 employees committed suicide last year in Foxconn’s Shenzen division, the factory and Apple have been under scrutiny for their treatment of workers and for supposedly allowing “sweatshop-like conditions.” In response, Apple conducted internal investigations and said it was working to “ensure that conditions throughout our supply chain are safe and workers are treated with respect and dignity.”
The former head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) remained in jail on Friday after defence lawyers cited problems meeting bail conditions.
Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who denies charges of attempting to rape a hotel maid, posted bail of $1m.
He agreed to be confined to a flat rented by his wife, with an electronic monitor and kept under guard.
But residents of the Manhattan building refused to accept him, forcing lawyers to find other housing, reports said.
Mr Strauss-Kahn is charged with seven counts including four felony charges – two of criminal sexual acts, one of attempted rape and one of sexual abuse – plus three misdemeanour offences, including unlawful imprisonment.
His accuser is a 32-year-old widow originally from Guinea in west Africa who reportedly told authorities Mr Strauss-Kahn accosted her after she entered his hotel room to clean it.
Mr Strauss-Kahn, 62, denies the allegations and on 6 June is set to enter a formal plea.
He has spent four nights at the notorious Rikers Island jail in New York City since his arrest on Saturday over the alleged incident at the Sofitel hotel.

It might turn out to be a premature rugby obituary, but there’s an over-riding sense that Jerome Kaino’s departure ends not just a good All Black career, but one of the great loose-forward combinations.
Kaino, who turns 29 next month, announced yesterday he would take a two-year contract with Japanese club Toyota. The deal is one of rugby’s richest, worth more than $1 million a year.
Yesterday he revealed how he wrestled with the decision and in the end the two hardest calls he made were to his captain and coach.
It was under the tutelage of Steve Hansen, as All Blacks forwards coach, that Kaino turned from raw-boned, yet a little flaky, to a consistent blindside behemoth.
With the peerless Richie McCaw and Kieran Read, they formed a back-row combination that lacks the mystique of Nathan, Tremain, Lochore and Whetton, Jones, Shelford, but nothing else.
“Steve was disappointed. That was probably the hardest phone call that I had to make, along with ringing Richie, but he wished me the best.
It was a tough phone call to make,” Kaino said.
“Richie was similar. I always wanted to play with him and I still thought I’d keep playing with him for more years to come.
“But this is only for now … hopefully, maybe in the future, we’ll be able to play alongside each other again.”
It’s a reassuring sentiment, but one that needs to be balanced by reality. Reintegration will be difficult.
“I leave the door open for someone else to take the jersey and take the spot. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy if I decide to come back, but it’s all part of sport. You give someone an opportunity, it’s a challenge to get back.”
Time stands still for no flanker and it is hard to believe that someone who plays a power position like Kaino can melt into a vastly inferior competition and return with the same steely constitution he left with.
Still, if the 48-test veteran had nothing more to show for his career than the body of work he put together during last year’s World Cup, it would leave an impressive legacy.
