‘The Talk’ Adds Sheryl Underwood, Kris Jenner After Backstage Tensions

CBS is set to announce that conservative comic Sheryl Underwood and Kardashian mom Kris Jenner will serve as co-hosts of the CBS daytime show “The Talk,” reports Deadline.com. Underwood, a former staple on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and the Jamie Foxx channel for Sirius XM satellite radio, is now a weekly contributor on radio’s Steve Harvey Mornin g Show. A former member of the U.S. Armed Forces, Underwood likes to call herself “a sexually progressive God-fearing black Republican.” This latest move by “Talk” producers follows months of apparent behind-the-scenes drama that culminated in the reported exit of co-hosts Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini. Their options were not renewed. Sharon Osbourne, who said she wanted to scale back her appearances on the show, will return this fall, but only for six non-consecutive weeks. Sara Gilbert, one of the creators of the show, and Les Moonves’ wife Julie Chen are still on board in front of the camera. Chen, the wife of Moonves and host of CBS’ “Big Brother,” is rumored to have been too overbearing behind the scenes, prompting tension between the ladies. Below are just some of the “Chenbot” rumors that have surfaced since “The Talk” began:

From Zap2it.com (July 19, 2011): “Sara may be executive producer, but Julie is definitely the Queen B,” says one mole. “The reason [former executive producer] Susan Winston was fired following only two weeks on the job was because she changed something during a segment that made a guest uncomfortable,” says the insider. Allegedly, when Chen informed her husband, Les Moonves, president and chief executive officer of CBS Corporation, of the incident he reportedly watched the segment in question and had Winston fired on the spot. Prior to that development, I reported last January that Barbara Bloom was relieved of her duties as Senior Vice-President of Daytime following alleged run-ins with Chen.

From New York post’s Page Six (Aug 16, 2011):  Julie Chen’s “queen bee attitude” is forcing the ladies of CBS’s “The Talk” to flee the daytime gab-fest after just one season. Sources say fed-up Leah Remini plans to quit on the heels of Sharon Osbourne’s bombshell that she’s taking a break. Co-host Holly Robinson Peete last week said she will not return for Season 2. The last straw for Osbourne and Remini was Chen’s order, passed down from her master-of- the-universe husband, CBS President Les Moonves, following their South of France break, that the women were not allowed to discuss the Casey Anthony case without her because she’s the only host with journalistic credentials. “[Julie] said, ‘My husband feels strongly that you should not be talking about news [without me], you are not news people,’ ” our source told us. “Sharon just said, ‘I don’t know about this.’ She’d had enough. ” Despite the friction, one program insider called Chen “the glue that holds the show together” and firmly placed the blame on Remini. “[Remini] was a disruptive force,” the source said. “She had a huge morale problem,” adding that Remini often brought her mother on set, who refused to follow studio rules. “Her mother never parked in her assigned space,” the insider said. “She was told not to park in the lot anymore. ” Two executive producers have abandoned the show since it began last fall. But co-host Sara Gilbert is slated to return. A CBS spokesperson told us, “ ‘The Talk’ just finished a strong first season . . . The producers are currently working on a creative game plan for Season 2, which launches on Sept. 6.” Osbourne’s rep said she was “not reachable .” Remini’s agent said, “I don’t believe anyone’s option has been picked up. Her mom does go to the show every day as does Sara’s mom and Holly’s mom.” He declined to comment about the parking-lot matter because Remini couldn’t be reached by deadline.

RALPH & EDNA

Just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to, doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have. Ralph and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital. One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool,Ralph suddenly jumped into the deep end.

He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there.

Edna promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the bottom and pulled him out. When the Head Nurse Director became aware of Edna’s heroic act she immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital, as she now considered her to be mentally stable.

When she went to tell Edna the news she said, ‘Edna, I have good news and bad news. The good news is you’re being discharged, since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis by jumping in and saving the life of the person you love. I have concluded that your act displays sound mindedness.

‘The bad news is, Ralph hung himself in the bathroom with his bathrobe belt right after you saved him. I am so sorry, but he’s dead.’

Edna replied, ‘He didn’t hang himself. I put him there to dry…. How soon can I go home?’

Happy Mental Health Day!

Stop Supporting Lil’ Wayne and Artists like Him

Dr. Boyce Watkins is a professor at Syracuse University that is a contributing writer for Newsone.  Last week, he deliveredan interesting perspective on a segment of the HipHop world that he contends is destroying the black community…one life at a time.  While a lot of us believe that there are a lot of great artists to be found under the guise of Hip-Hop, there are some poison berries in the group choking the life of the genre and our children.

The piece he wrote entitled, “BET Has Become The New KKK” is definitely worth reading.  He makes an eloquent argument against listening to artists like Lil’ Wayne because the lyrics he uses reflect a dangerous resemblance of life imitating art.  But, surely Wayne would argue that the landscape he raps about was already there when he got to Hip-Hop.  He isn’t saying anything that he hasn’t seen for himself.  A lot of the more negative rappers use old school mama’s logic, ”Don’t repeat everything you hear!”  They figure they can say whatever they want because they’re rappers not role models.

Watkins makes a compelling argument for us to stop bobbing our head to the beat and listen to the lyrics that our children are using as their soundtrack to violence.  The senseless murders we continue to write about as well as experience can be found on the latest platinum Lil’ Wayne cd and other discs like it. But the ironic thing is that Watkins brings BET into the picture as our pusher.  The now white owned Viacom company that owns BET makes certain that we are immersed in nominations for the rappers that would do us harm. BET, in Watkins opinion, has taken over the plan for the black community from the KKK and is making us slaves to the rhythm.

Thank you Dr. Boyce for speaking up!

Birdman Bets $2 Million on Miami Heat

Bryan “Birdman” Williams is showing the world that he ain’t no punk. Although he recently made a ridunkulous bet.

The Cash Money Records head honcho put down $2 million, wagering that the Miami Heat will take the NBA Championship title this year against the Dallas Mavericks. Either that’s just blind confidence or he knows something everyone else doesn’t. But then again, he just has money to throw away.

This isn’t the first time Birdman put down a hefty bet.

Last year he wagered $4 million on Floyd Mayweather in his fight against Sugar Shane Mosley.

And just earlier this year in February, he placed a $1 million bet on the Green Bay Packers for the Super Bowl.

NeNe Gets with Al to Get Back at Star?

Maybe NeNe Leakes is out to get back at Star Jones. According to recent reports, the “Housewives of Atlanta” star has been hanging with the Star’s ex-hubby, Al Reynolds.

Coincidence? Maybe not.

NeNe and her “Celebrity Apprentice” co-star Jones have been feuding on the show since the beginning, but this takes their fight to a “whole ‘notha level.”

Star is apparently having a hard time dealing with the thought of them even being in the same room with one another.

“Star thinks it’s pathetic that these two has-beens have teamed up together,” one of Star’s friends told PopEater. “NeNe knows how much pain and hurt that man caused Star. For NeNe to suddenly befriend him tells you exactly what sort of woman she really is.”

But what’s really eating Star is that if the two are as close as they appear, Al could be divulging some very personal information about the pair’s marriage.

“Al will do anything to get back into the press, including hanging out with reality stars,” a source from Star’s camp said. “But to be getting close and personal with a woman who has publicly stated she wouldn’t spit on your ex-wife if she was on fire, is just desperate.”

To add insult to injury, NeNe gabbed on Ellen about how Star is so “manipulative” and “conniving.” She also shares her thought on “The Talk.”

So much for NeNe not wanting to be the “villain” anymore as she professed to us a few weeks ago.

Don’t invite Bill Cosby and Russell Simmons to the same event. In the past, Simmons has taken issue with Cosby’s stance against gangsta rap, parental responsibility and disrespectful youth. Simmons feels Cosby has been too harsh. Cosby has criticized many of the entertainment ventures the rap mogul has some connection with, most famously taking to the airwaves to criticize Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam show. At the recent Jackie Robinson Foundation Awards (The ROBIE’s), the two came face to face, and it didn’t go well. Cosby told the media mogul and bestselling author to Get The F*&% Out Of My Face, and bumped him as he walked away. Even though he and Mr. Cosby have their differences, Simmons says he still loves him. (it’s like that Bill?)(Bill your an educated man
I’m surprised at your behavior. Are you becoming senile, and know
one wants to confess it to you?)

John Travolta

John Travolta says he will be on hand for the Welcome Back Kotter reunion. The TV Land network is saluting the 70’s TV classic on April 10th. Travolta became famous as “Vinnie Barbarino.” Lawrence Hilton Jacobs who played “Freddie Boom Boom Washington” is also appearing as well as Ron Palillo, who player “Arnold Horshack” and Marcia Strassman, who played “Mrs. Kotter.” No word yet
on whether Gabe Kaplan, who played “Mr. Kotter,” or Robert Hegyes, who played “Juan Epstein,” will appear. The show originally aired on ABC from 1975 to 1979.

Ebony Magazine

Steve Harvey Chris Rock and Mo’Nique grace the new issue of Ebony magazine. The cover is hot as the magazine undergoes a new design. I love the new look of Ebony and the revised contents. Hats off to Amy DuBois Barnett and her amazing staff! Since I mentioned Chris Rock, he’s headed to Broadway playing a drug counselor in the production The M***F*** With The Hat (yes that’s the title). Previews kick off March 15th, and the play ends June 26th. Steve Harvey is gearing up for his Foundation’s Gala on April 4th in New York City. Sherri Shepherd will be co-hosting and honorees include Tyler Perry and Chris Rock and his wife Malaak.
