Tyler Perry is back with a new Madea adventure. A Madea Christmas is a new stage play available on DVD. Last week, Perry sent a letter to his fans defending his hiring of Reality Star Kim Kardashian for his new movie The Marriage Counselor. The movie stars Jurnee Smollett, Lance Gross and Brandy, but everyone is talking about Kardashian. Perry says young people look up to her, and that young people need to see this movie and hear its message. He talked about her 72-day marriage and the media hoopla. Perry says by casting Kardashian he wants to show people what happens in life when you make the wrong choices. Perry says this is a hard time of the year for him because he is still dealing with the loss of his mom.
In more Tyler news, his new TBS-TV series, Better Or For Worse, debuts Friday, November 25th at 10pm. The comedy stars Tasha Smith and Michael Jai White, and is based on Perry’s hit movie series Why Did I Get Married. Friday nights is the new Tyler Perry night for TBS. New episodes of House Of Payne will air as well as new episodes of Meet The Browns on Fridays.
Bonnie Pointer of The Pointer Sisters is in trouble with the law again. Pointer, 61, was recently arrested for possession of crack cocaine. Pointer has been dealing with drug addiction for years. In recent years, she reunited with the group, but is again estranged from her surviving sisters. Pointer was an original member of The Pointer Sisters. She left the group and had a major hit with the 1979 disco classic which was a remake of The Elgins’ Heaven Must Have Sent You. Pointer has been released on bail, and she is due in court January 17th.
Venus Williams says she is ready to return to tennis. Williams was diagnosed earlier this year with Sjogren’s syndrome, which attacks the immune system and causes fatigue and joint pain. Williams has changed her diet adding lots of vegetables. She is scheduled to face off against her sister Serena on December 3rd.
At press time, Singer Robin Gibb of The Bee Gees remains in critical condition. Gibb along with his brothers, Maurice and Barry, formed The Bee Gees. In their heyday, The Bee Gees sold over 200 million records, including the smash soundtrack Saturday Night Fever. Gibb, 61, is battling liver cancer.
Are Kimora Lee Simmons and Actor Djimon Hounsou still together? Simmons has been spotted without her wedding ring.
VH1 Divas celebrates soul is a new special with Jill Scott, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson and Florence & The Machine. The Roots will serve as the house band for the event which airs December 19th on VH1. Just added to the lineup are Chaka Khan, Boyz II Men, Marsha Ambrosius, Erykah Badu and Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings. Now speaking of Chaka Khan, the 59-year old recently showed off her new boyfriend, a 25-year old model.
For the first time in 21 years, The Time has reunited. Under their new name The Original 7ven, Morris Day, Jerome Benton, Jellybean Johnson, Jesse Johnson, Monte Moir, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis have released their new CD Condensate. The Time was best known for the songs 777-9311, The Bird, Cool and Jungle Love. The Original 7ven will be opening the Soul Train Awards which will air on the BET and Centric networks. Cedric The Entertainer is hosting. Some of the night’s highlights include tributes to Earth Wind & Fire and Gladys Knight. There will also be a tribute to Rapper/Actor Heavy D, who died recently at the age of 44. Kurtis Blow, Naughty By Nature, Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh, Whodini and DJ Eddie F will be participating in the tribute. The show will air on Sunday, November 27th.
Tyler Perry is the cover guy for the new issue of Ebony magazine. In this issue of Ebony, Perry says no more feuding with Spike Lee. He’s over that drama. He says he regrets some of the things he said, but from now on Perry is going to be more respectful to Lee and his family. Perry also talks about a special lady, but he won’t reveal who she is. He also talks about wanting to be a father.
Spike Lee has been devoting a lot of time to documentaries and similar projects. In a recent interview, Spike talked about why he isn’t doing movies. He says he is not feeling the love of Hollywood’s money men. He says he can’t get the funding for the projects he wants to do including movies about James Brown and Baseball Legend Jackie Robinson. Spike should take a page out of the Tyler Perry’s handbook: Fund Your Own Movies-Do It Yourself. You can say a lot of things about Tyler Perry, but he doesn’t ask anyone for anything. He does his movies and projects himself.

Clifton Powell on Spike Lee: He Needs To Sit His Punk A** Down. Sounding like he was hired by Tyler Perry, actor Clifton Powell had a few harsh words of his own about Spike Lee earlier this week on the “Russ Parr Morning Show.” The actor went in on Lee, repeatedly ranting that he would beat Spike’s a**: “He has never hired me, I don’t really care, because I would never want to work with him. Tyler [Perry] has found his genre. The problem with being African American in film as a producer, you have to be so worried about stepping on toes. We have just a few outlets in terms of the dimensions we are as a people. We zero in because there are not enough dimensions of what we do.” “To be honest, I don’t like Spike Lee. Spike is worse than any one of the mans [sp]. Because back in the day…and I hope Spike is listening cause I’ll beat your punk a**. I don’t like Spike. I have never said it publicly out, but Spike is a hater…I shouldn’t have said it like this, but I’m going to tell you the truth. I’m from the streets and you got to take care of your people .. .Spike needs to go sit his punk a** down and stop talking about Tyler Perry. Tyler Perry was homeless about 10, 12 years ago and Spike wasn’t writing him no checks. I don’t like Spike Lee because I don’t like his politics as it pertains to how he deals with African-Americans. I auditioned for Spike several times, he kept all of us waiting for hours. It was insulting, he made people fly across country, pay for themselves and come to auditions. Spike is the worst and he needs to go sit his punk a** down!”
It’s here, Tyler Perry’s newest movie production, “Madea’s Big Happy Family.” In the midst of all the excitement, it looks like the playwright and cross-dressing actor is preparing to launch a new show, “For Better or for Worse.”
The new production will premiere on TBS and is based on the characters of couples flick “Why Did I Get Married?”
Sources reveal that the show will likely follow a group of college best friends as they deal with life’s issues: Carl and Leslie, a beautiful, happily married couple who want their friends to be as happy as they are; Brian, a TV sportscaster who has a volatile yet comedic relationship with his wife, Michelle, a hair salon owner; and Janice, a therapist married to a sharp, ambitious lawyer, Jordan, who’s trying to keep his secrets secret.
According to reports, Miss USA 2008, Crystle Stewart has already booked a part in the series, but it’s not known which part she will play
In the meantime, for those of you who thought Madea was going to disappear for a while, Perry said she’s here to stay and ain’t retiring any time soon. Sorry Spike.
“As long as people want to see it, I’ll keep going. I’ll keep doing it,” Tyler said Wednesday on “Conan.” “If people stop coming to see the character, what will happen is that old broad will die really quickly.”
He also lamented about his methods of branding, saying he may have gone overboard.
“People forget that Walt Disney was a person. His name was above the title and it’s a great example. When you’re branding yourself and building a business [you] use your name. I think I just did it a little bit too much,” Tyler said.
Tyler Perry, the detective? Yes! Perry has signed on to play “Alex Cross,” a crime solving D.C. detective based on the books by James Patterson. This is not a Tyler Perry production. The only time he ever appeared in a movie that wasn’t his was Star Trek. Morgan Freeman previously played the “Alex Cross” character in the movies Kiss The Girls and Along Came A Spider.
There’s a lot of buzz on the net and “Twitter” concerning Tyler Perry new movie “For Colored Girls”…there are some Christians who are claiming that Tyler Perry have slither back into the world with his latest movie.
For all those who don’t know this Tyler Perry roots are Christian…and it can be said that it was the black church his Christian audiences who made Perry a national figure….but many of his loyal fans have felt abandoned in the last couple of films he has created….some church folks are pointing fingers at the language and mature subject matter of those films which have turned many Christians away from his films….but ”For Colored Girls” outdoes them all with brief:nudity, violence, language, rape, wanton sexuality, abortion, murder—definitely not your average Christian movie….some Christians are finding offense in the characterization of Christianity in the film…one character, Alice (Goldberg) is a religious fanatic who condemns everyone to hell for the slightest infraction that she deems unworthy, even to the point of trying to perform exorcisms on her daughters…well any ways, Dr.Jamal Bryant and Dr.Thema Bryant-Davis will conduct a webinar on November 23 too discuss the movie subject matters with Christian women.

At first I was going to go see it, I read the book years ago. Which actually is about
7 dancers that come together and intertwined. Anyhoo, I have had enough life experiences and
observations to know what the movie is translating into human consumption. Yet today a lot of folks
still don’t get it. Tyler Perry is doing what makes him happy. He is only responsible for his own life’s
experiences, and how he interprets those meanings in his mind. Could be sorrow, bitterness, depression,finances,family a host of scenarios. We don’t have to spend money on his plays or movies, that is a given choice. Why folks feel they must put the brother down, amazes me that they are not looking at the whole picture. Nobody says’s anything about Woody Allen’s movies, who never uses minorities in any of his movies, unless the NAACP reported it and I missed it.
I don’t agree with some of Mr. Perry’s entertainment, but that is his experience not mine. I don’t have to pay for it if I don’t want to, that is choice. Instead of so-called Christian folks women & men denouncing a brother, try reading that book you believe in and quit judging, it’s not your job, so get
off the cross and let someone else use the wood please!
Is the Tyler Perry film For Colored Girls a man-bashing movie? The movie, based on the stage play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf by Ntozake Shange, did well at the box office taking in over $20 million, but a lot of men claim they felt insulted that there was only one positive male character. I loved the movie. I thought the performances were outstanding, and I didn’t feel it was a male-bashing movie. This is a woman’s movie. It tells a woman’s story of hope, abandonment, survival, struggle, abortion, rape and depression. I’m sure if the shoe was on the other foot and I was a man, I may have felt the same way. But, I don’t think male-bashing is the intended theme.
Get ready for a remake of Sparkle. The 1976 hit movie with Irene Cara, Lonette McKee and Philip Michael Thomas is being remade. The new version will star season six American Idol Winner Jordin Sparks. She will play the title role made famous by Irene Cara. Whitney Houston will play her mother. Mike Epps will play the bad guy the role of “Satin,” who beat “Sister” and got her hooked on drugs. This will be Whitney Houston’s first movie role since the Preacher’s Wife in 1996.
Oscar Winner Jennifer Hudson recently celebrated her 30th birthday.She’s featured in the Best Dressed issue of People magazine.
Why did Rapper/Actor T.I. end up back in jail? T.I. was released from jail a month early. He had served 11 months behind bars on a parole violation. He was let out early for good behavior. When he left the Arkansas facility, it was amid a lot of fanfare…. as in a fancy tour bus equipped with cameras. He is doing a reality show for VH1 and producers were on hand for his release. Well prison officials had a fit despite the fact that the guards were taking pictures with T.I. in front of the bus. T.I. was out of jail for one day when he was sent back to serve out another 30 days. Officials claim he was supposed to leave in a van with his wife and manager not a fancy tour bus equipped with cameras. T.I. is expected to be out by the end of the month. I’m sure all the details will be in his new book and VH1 reality show.
Did Tea Party favorite and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin have some “cooked rice” in her past? In a new tell all book by Joe McGinnis, The Rogue: Searching For The Real Sarah Palin, the author talks about Palin and drug use, extramarital affairs, and a college one night stand with NBA Superstar Glen Rice. The explosive book comes out September 20th.

What’s going on with Singer Lionel Richie? Richie has delayed work on his latest music project and he had to cancel some concerts.
Producer/Composer Nile Rodgers of Chic fame is writing a book. The book, Le Freak, is coming out next year. It will detail his music career and his battle with cancer. Rodgers has worked with Diana Ross, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Madonna and Sister Sledge.

Is there a shakeup in the future for ABC’s Good Morning America? George Stephanopoulos may be out and Sports Anchor Josh Elliott may be his replacement. Elliott used to work at ESPN, ABC’s sister cable network. Stephanopoulos has been cited for being too short against the other hosts of the show Robin Roberts and Laura Spencer. I think his problem is he seems uninterested in the lighter segments. He may return to his old position on the show This Week also on ABC.
